he sayshe's not going... personally, i'd love it if the msl took off. young irish lads should move over there. it's better than playing for scunthorpe or some cruds like that.

discuss.

So do ya reckon USA will be a contender on the international stage when all the kids who play "soccer" now grow up?

Or will it always be considered just a safe kids/girls game over there, which they grow out of when they're 15 or 16?

I know a lad who got a footie scholarship to the USofA recently so mibbee there's hope yet. A guy I work with has been a qualified coach for years and says he knows loads of folk who are getting the certification here and moving to the states to coach.

loadsa irish lads go over to the US to play....you do a course in colaiste ide to go over. I know two lads personally who went over and they went with a big group of irish lads, both to seperate colleges/uni's.

a few limerick fc players went over years ago and are still there.

a cousin of mine got a soccer scholarship over there. never remember him being and better than the rest of us but hey he went. hes still over there - coaching kids now and probaly eyeing up soccer moms.

I have an uncle who's been coaching high school teams for over twenty years. One of which were unbeaten in his nine years there. He runs a lot of summer camps and other projects too but I think the game there is limited by the lack of professional teams... players get to college but then there's nothing like the different leagues that exist in European countries to take them up. It's MLS or bust, and MLS just hasn't been of a high enough standard.
Or something like that.
Few guys from the local youth club got scholarships out there too - yet they weren't good enough to be taken on by the premiership clubs they trialled at. says a lot.

well, the level of mls has be be equivalent with... league two? championship?
ronnie o'brien lads...
