Foggy Notions Presents...DEERHUNTER, Whelan's, Aug 23 (1 Viewer)

Headed along at the last minute after initially deciding I'd give them a miss this time.. Very solid show and dependably ear-blasting but I thought the crowd were fairly subdued and standoffish, even for a Sunday night.. Bradford seemed a bit disappointed that people weren't responding all that much to his banter. Big emphasis on the Weird Era \ Microcastle stuff, I was surprised they only did one song off the new EP.

Really, really enjoyed this - didn't so much enjoy the tantrum at the end tho, but hey. ;) People were a bit subdued but not 'cos the gig was shit, as there was no way you could say it was...it was a Sunday night, go figure. Better than people talking the whole way through the gig anyway, I reckon. But I can understand that he may have thought people just weren't feeling it.

Paraphrasing:
"On the tiny little toy Christmas present Fender guitar - Lockett Pundt. And on the real man's guitar, it's me"

i didnt get the whole tantrum when he did his 'interpretive drumming' thing.
what did he expect us to do? i felt that almost ruined whatever buzz was there.
was delighted he lightened up a bit after that during the 'band introduction'.

It was kind odd behaviour alright. Dunno if he was just in bad form, or just a really strange mood. He seemed to keep extending any jam parts of the set. The bassist looked at him a few times during the gig, especially during Nothing Ever Happened, as if to say "get on with it". Personally I love when they do their extended droney bits so I didn't mind :)

I just listened to them for the first time ever this afternoon. They're great. I should listened to them yesterday instead and then I would have gone. I hate that.

this gig was sublime. sound was perfect.

cheers foggy for bringing em back.

agree with g, really enjoyed it. The best sound at a Dublin show i've been to in a long, long time. Then I'd never seen them before and amn't a huge fan so had no expectations. Sorry I didn't get to chat with you two afterwards, I was babysitting a drunkard!
