Mermaid presents Viviane, one of the most stunning voices in contemporary Portuguese music. Her distinctive style has at its core the beautiful Portuguese tradition of Fado, a genre defined by its plaintive, soulful lyrics and melancholic tone. Born in Nice, Viviane also draws on the French chanson she heard in her youth counting Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel amongst her influences along with other French stars such as Gainsbourg, Vartan and Greco.
Listening to her music however, it is easy to tell that Viviane’s heart belongs to Fado as she surrounds her lavish voice with a fittingly traditional line-up of flute, Portuguese guitar, viola and double bass. Undoubtedly an evening for lovers of song.
