i have a 3.5" external hard drive for which ive bought two usb cases for. its blown the power unit on both of em and im sure if i buy another itll do the same. whats going on there? is there a short on the PCB or what? anyone know a way i can get shit off the drive / stop it from continually breaking caddies?

cheers,
Ern

worst case scenario they'd have to replace their PSU, or a fuse in it

possibly

the important thing to do would be to feign ignorance

I don't see how the HD would be the problem here (i.e. I wouldn't have any worries about plugging it into a computer directly via sata).

It sounds like whatever power transformer supplied with the USB caddies is rated too high. Or else the PCB is of suspect quality.
