English 70s Folk etc (1 Viewer)

alot what nlgbbbblth said, except Donavon :p, your still to convince me dude;)

Pentangle are one of the greatest bands ever are I would recommend all of the Jansch LP’s if you like them maybe start check out John Martyn’s -London Conversation, one man and his guitar magic stuff and also the Red Hash album by Garry Higgins
Rick Hayward-s/t the cd also has the album he recorded but never released.
Turid-all first 3 LP’s are magic, Swedish acidic folk, kind of like
If you like incredible string band and Fairport check out, Bread Love and Dreams and C.O.B-Spirit of Love, Cliver Palmers spin off band, better too
Defo check Spirogyra and if you dig the Forest record maybe check out the Synanthesia album, it’s never sat well with me but a lot of people like it.
Tim Hart and Maddy Rose – Summer Solstice, we had a harpest play at my wedding this year and Mrs S walked down the aisle to rendition of a track off this LP. I rate it highly, also they did stuff for Topic too. As did a lot of Irish artists like Dominic Behan, his version of Master McGrath is special. Also worth check on the Irish acid folk tip is Skara Brae's only album, the Dhomhaill clan from Donegal, it sits right up there for me with a lot of the UK stuff.
Also the first couple of Strawbs albums are good, before they go waaaaaay too proggy.

Wow thats really good Brian. Guys a total guitar wizard! Didn't know he'd left Threads. Was the best thing about them.

Here's a folk rock compilation I clobbered together. MP3's @ 320kbps

thanks for the comp. some very nice stuff there. like the anne briggs (never listened to her before). hadn't heard that dando shaft track before - amazing.

i never heard anything else by steeleye span other than "hark the village wake" that i liked. and it's one of my favourite records. what went wrong?

worth checking also is the German outfit Witthuser & Westrupp, proper cosmic folk ala krautrock. They where part of the Ohr/Pilz labels. the album Trips and Traume is really brilliant and the follow up Der Jesuspilz is some sort of concept album about an alternate idea that we live in a magic mushroom, yeah i know very hippy, but quality, once you can get past the fact that its sung in german, they also where part of the top krautrock lp's Walter Westrupp's Tarot (there's a cover of one of there tunes), Sergius Golowin's Lord Krishna, and also played on the deadly folk-rock outfit Hoederlin's Traum LP Holderlin, which i also rate highly.
