Strictly Kev performs a multi-layered score to the Monkees movie Head

Using a countless number of records three decks and fx,
"Strictly Kev from Ninja Tune production outfit DJ food will be
performing a multi-layered score to the Monkees' infamous classic
movie 'head'. Originally commissioned for the Cinetrip club in Budapest
in 2001, this show only recently received it's first performance in the UK, March 2004
as subsequent attempts to show it at the NFT for the films'
30th anniversary ran into licencing problems.

Produced & directed by Jack Nicholson and Robert Rafelson
the film is a disjointed trip (literally in some places) once
described as 'A Hard Days Night on Acid'. The new soundtrack
capitulates on this by bouncing from psychedelia, electronica and
spoken word to easy listening, krautrock and sound effects and back
again.

I remember seeing Pat McMellow scoring Psych once in some short-lived trendy bar. It was fantastic - loads of music from "The Taking of Pelham 123" and stuff. I'm going to this.

has this sort of thing not been done to death?
I can't count how many times I've seen it used as a backdrop / bands playing along to it

by I can't count I mean twice, but it's still a bit zed.

the monkees "head" movie is fantastic, it complely devoid of any kind of structure as a film. there is almost no link between differnet parts of the movie.
i saw it when i was really young and was completely baffled by it, unsurprisingly. don't remember much about it other than that it was deeply confusing and contained the immortal line "i'd like a glass of cold gravy with a hair in it, please".

as Zappa's cow says in the film "Und Ze Monkees ist the craziest people"

if you're a fan of The Monkees, it's utterly brilliant

if not I imagine it's very irritatting and confusing

I totally love it, it's some really great tunes as well, a little cod pscychbubblegumpop, but still utterly rapid.

Does it really need some DJ pricking about over it?
