Oh, absolutely, and this is an important point: the tabloid treatment of rape, abuse, murder satisfies these perverse lusts. Hense why Sotos peppers his ranting with newspaper headlines, and why he jerks off to grieving parents as broadcast through day time talk shows (see: Buyers Market). It is a fairly well known fact that tabloid newspapers are the number one form of pornography for incarcerated sex criminals.Corm said:Yeah, but as someone mentioned earlier, look at all the horrible shit in the tabloids every day. People love that shit. They love to hear about and create those kind of characters. They live out their own dark unspoken fantasies and impulses vicariously through those fucked up enough to actually commit them.
No, thats who he is, through and through. I am all for freedom of speech, but that must include freedom to disagree. I viewpoints of people like Sotos and, to a lesser extent, Goad might be valid in that they are so extremely un-PC, but they aren't being ironic. They're being honest. It is interesting the way sub-cultures make a hole for such people to crawl through. From Johnny Rotten and Siouxie wearing swastika armbands to Ian Stewart becoming frontman for Skrewdriver.the strange guy said:Yeh, 'Lazy' was the Sotos book I read. I didn't buy it, JAYSUS NO, it was a kind present to my housemate from Stevie Riot. Hardly a romantic gesture, but I can't think of an more original gift concerning sex. It deeply disturbed me, yet was compulsive reading for 5 minute bursts before I felt ill. I didn't finish it. I don't think I ever could. My mother would kill me.
I'd like to think 'Sotos' is a character Sotos conjured up, due to the fact that I couldn't imagine a total fucking pedo running around getting books printed about what it's like to be a total fucking pedo.
Brian Conniffe said:The Dublin Whitehouse show surprised me.... I was also surprised at how ridiculously camp the whole spectacle was..
The line from one refers to a "craven lust-driven artist channeling confusion and fear into a sickly limp repetative craft". And thats the problem with Sotos' writing and collages.
it's amazing how these oh so extreme people can be so boring that you can completley forget a detail such as that! maybe i'm just a bad reader thoughAnd the stuff that I had, the child pornography I had, wasn't this sort of Menudo-type thing. It wasn't just Jock Sturgis photos or whatever. It was really ugly stuff. It was definitely rape.
I was expecting something dark, overwhelming and threatening. I was aware of a camp dimension to what they do, but I was definately surprised to see the pair of them behave like a pair of randy gay ravers soaked in amyl nitrate.mac warzonescum said:They are obsessed with deviant sex, the aesthetics of fascism, and electronic music and you are surprised at how camp it all is? Haven't you been paying attention? Didn't you spot any of the clues?
Yes, Tracy Emin did a video piece called "Why I Never Became A Dancer", about how fucked up she is and artistically inspired she is based on an episode of past sexual humiliation. So, yes that is a direct reference. I do think some of that track applies to Sotos, especially the naming of the track "Bird Seed" is interesting.M.BISON said:i always assumed this (and lots of birdseed) was about sotos until someone (on the whitehouse list?) said it might be about tracy emin, which made a lot of sense too.
Well, not really. Whitehouse have never had any racist material. They did albums like "Buchenwald" and "New Britain", but thats just them mocking the use of facist imagery that was started by Throbbing Gristle and over-used by all the post-TG imitators. The association of Whitehouse with far-right ideologies and nazi-wankers is something that Bill Bennett has been directly vocal about being against.re: whitehouse + homoerotocism...something i never figured at all until i'd seen a video of them before i saw them live. but as someone somewhere pointed out, they've never really ever had a go at queers...ha. everyone else got theirs.
My apologies also, although I am interested in contributing something to the zine myself.i feel we've collectively 'raped' this thread - sorry the original poster!
