Hello from Compactrisc. Here is our latest news.

---Northstation: Bears---

The next release on Compactrisc will be the CD album 'Bears' (risc005), by Northstation - a.k.a. Dublin-based musician Steve Fanagan - which is being released this Friday, 2nd of July.

To launch the album, there will be a:

free

live

instore

performance

in Road Records, Fade St., Dublin 2, this Friday July 2nd 2004 at 6.30pm.

mp3s of three tracks from 'Bears' are available at http://www.compactrisc.net/bears

(The instore is on the same evening as Rollers/Sparkers play in the Cobblestone Bar, Smithfield. You can go from one gig to the other in plenty of time to see both - they're at 6.30pm and 9pm respectively. Rollers/Sparkers are playing this gig to launch their debut album, 'Second Level Crossing', which is also being released on Friday, and which you should also get.)

'Bears', recorded by Steve at home over the past year, is a meditative collection of fractured electronics and chiming guitars that brings to mind things like the hum of Labradford, the electronic warmth of Four Tet, and a host of other stuff from Polmo Polpo to This Heat. It will be released in a specially-commissioned heavy cardboard sleeve, and sounds great on headphones.

It will be on sale in Ireland for around ten euros.

Steve has previously released music as:

- Old Man Polka (the album ‘I Go To Work To Come Home To You’, released last year on Dead Slack String Records)

- Northstation (with one previous album, ‘Plink. Plonk.’ on Mango Music)

- Wrecking Ball (with a CD-R album of improvisations for voice and bell, ‘Grunt Work’, recently released by Deserted Village Records)

- Under his own name (the album ‘There Is Hope’, recorded in Chicago by Steve Albini and released on Mango Music in 2001).
