Chomsky is the smartest man in the universe (2 Viewers)

zizek's new book is out this month
aiming towards a new universalism
but not like that dumbfuck habermas
it's a lacanian universalism. new left review had an article
by him called 'against human rights'
in which he seems to lay the foundations...

i am far more excited by it than i'd like to admit.

The longer list is worse.

I don't fucking think so. Have you ever actually read any of his books? Have you ever sat through any of his painful jibe-making lectures? The man is to biased to be considered even smart. He needs a touch of the weighin scales starsign in him.

Sometimes I think that my hatred of Lacanian theory is the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning.

Hmmm. Zing.

On the other hand, what was that bed scene all about? He really does try awfully hard to maintain his rock-star philosopher image.

Chocolate laxatives. How profound.

Yeah he has a certain schizoid style,

but as a matter of opinion i find the whole 'sex without sex' theory at the heart of the puppet and the dwarf to be quite insightful as a critique of postmodern capital and its complicit illusions of freedom.
that idea and his 'against human rights' essay are two works of his that have articulated perfectly (and then expanded upon significantly) ideas that have been creeping around my own head for the past year. as such i feel enormously indebted to him for pacifying my paranoia, and intend to read as much of his work as i can before deciding how much of his conclusions (where he draws any, that is) i can take on board.

whatever the outcome, i owe him a certain peace of mind, and i think he'd be a pretty cool guy to sit down and talk to. i dont know the reason why he did that sequence in bed, but i'm glad for the fact that he did. yknow? it made me laugh. if a girl makes me laugh, i usually think i'm in love. maybe that's it. who knows? lacan?
