Yes, i wasnt convinced then either. Every person under 30 since Trump in 2016 became a communist and voted for Corbyn or Sanders, in 2023 my read is that they're now all disillusioned because they were thwarted at every step and their interests are moving away from politics again. We're likely entering part 2 of the "if only we could get young people engaged with politics" period of 1990-2015.I had a rant about it in the Twitter pile on thread a few days ago.
As for the Glinner and Gemmtrails types, these fringe personalities have always existed in middle aged people, on here we're now just middle aged enough ourselves to know them personally. Fact is, most of the insane Trump backed culture war candidates lost in 2022, and in the UK all the similar Torys are infighting and looking down the barrel of the gun at defeat in the next election.
As for Ireland, we get a sideshow of some lad standing outside a school with 20 cameras on him, giving him what he wants, and confused protests against immigrants that are not that different to the anti traveller protests we have every 6 months in various places all over Ireland. I predict neither Sinn Féin nor the National Party or whoever will get into power at the next election, FF/FG will continue to scrape by. I think people are gonna get radicalized regardless of what twitter does because the poor are getting poorer, and staying poorer, and this is the system working as designed.
Also, I don't agree with your solution of leaving Twitter behind, it'd do us all good sure but Twitter isn't the issue, clearly it's smartphones that should go, and leaving them behind en masse is probably as likely as everyone returning to being an agrarian culture...
