Calling all record player buffs (1 Viewer)

well i got the needle on my record player fixed today. finally! i can listen 2 my records again - but alas, the damn thing still isn't working. so im hoping someone might know whats wrong, what with vinyl being a frequent medium : the needle keeps skipping back after playing for a few seconds and therefore repeating the same snippit forever - like theres an invisible wall in the way - any ideas? (before i have 2 trudge down to the repair shop AGAIN). please.

argh, i hear ya. i hate things i cant fix, and my player refuses to play 7"s or the last song on a 12", so i took it all apart thinking "pah, repair shop, if i just unscrew this and...." now my record player plays till half way thru the 2nd song on a 12" and no further. darned technology.

It sounds like its fucked!

Ya should be able to unscrew the back and have a look @ whats going on. Most likely something's jamming the belt that moves the arm. Can you move to the center manually? What happens if you start the record in the middle?

i'm gonna hold you to 'oly can fix anything'. in reply to your questions:
- i'm scared to unscrew the back :S (re: karens post)
- the arm is a .. 'free moving body'. its not attached to anything, apart from its fulcrum.(ie no belt to speak of)
- sometimes the record will play for a while if u start it in the middle but then it starts to repeat again.

it DOES play records if you put slight pressure against the arm ... that proves to be great fun..

i'll hold oly to it as well so... unscrewd the back and broke it further. arm refuses to even b forced further than halfway, looked at everything that could b jamming it, found no clues. grrr.

Deena: Dont worry about taking off the back, you're just having a look. Check to see the motor or whatever it is that moves the arm when the record is finished isn't damaged. It might just have dust on it or something. Mail back telling me what you see anyway.

Karen: You completely fucked it up, and you're a specialer.

Nah, just do the same thing as deena. Unless you're both talking about the same record player, in which case, just watch deena coz I wouldn't trust you to turn on a light switch.
