Auger is one of the founding fathers of the jazz-rock-funk hybrid and is best known for his legendary band Brian Auger’s Trinity in the late 60’s, who scored major success across Europe and the U.S. including the UK No 1 single This Wheel’s On Fire.
Augur has collaborated with a roll call of artists including The Yardbirds, Rod Stewart and Jimmy Page. The live show is a wild and passionate fusion of sounds, covering classic cuts and brand new material.
“Brian Auger is one of the best B-3 artists I have ever heard in my life. His technique is awesome and the amount of energy he generates is unparalleled and relentless..”
-Herbie Hancock
Don’t miss BRIAN AUGER’S OBLIVION EXPRESS, CrawDaddy, Thursday July 15th!
“Those who remain oblivious to the obvious delights of Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express do so at their own risk.”
-The Beastie Boys
“ “When I first heard Brian’s album ‘Definitely What’ I could not believe how ahead of its time it was. A visionary in his own time with music that still comes over fresh today-and he’s still doing it just as great-keep up the good work mate!”
-Simon Bartholomew (The Brand New Heavies)
Once upon a time long ago in a land far away an entertainer came along and saw the potential of blending jazz, rock and funky R’n’B into an entirely new musical hybrid. It was England in the early sixties and the musician was Brian Auger. His favorite instrument has always been the classic Hammond B-3 organ with its warm, rich, bouncy, whirling distinctive sound.
Now three-and-a-half decades later, Auger has put together a new Oblivion Express band has recorded an album, Voices of Other Times on Mirimar Recordings, that once again combines all of those same classic ingredients that stunned audiences years ago.
Although Auger has had solo albums as well as recordings with his first group, the legendary Brian Auger's Trinity, he has also been involved in many historic collaborations with artists such as The Yardbirds, Rod Stewart, Sonny Boy Williamson, Jimmy Page, Julie Driscoll and Eric Burdon. Since 1970 Brian is best known for his group, Brain Auger’s Oblivion Express, which has toured the world numerous times and recorded many albums.
The latest edition of the Express is a youthful, hard-hitting, family oriented incarnation that features Brian on keyboards, his son Karma D. Auger on drums and percussion (he also serves as producer/engineer and has his own solo album, Blue Groove) The album also features Brian’s daughter, Savannah Auger, on vocals and Dan Lutz on bass.
“With this new band, I wanted to revisit some of the older material to see what it would sound like with different musicians playing in the modern era” explains Brian “and I wanted to place those tunes alongside new compositions that would show the kind of music we’ve been introducing to concert audiences lately.”
