Boycott Nick Cave gigs? (1 Viewer)

hey now i couldn't possibly condone such things

any links i posted here were for info / reference only

i know how hard it can be to manage a message board.....

Vinnie (07 Mar, 2001 12:33 p.m.):
But won't Roxy Music be doing a Greatest Hits package and generally avoiding all the Eno stuff? They might even do some Ferry solo stuff (Ugh!!!).

Weeeeell, I was at Ferry's solo gig last year in the Olympia (I actually don't mind his solo stuff, but that's the cheesy 80s pop tart within me, and I was pleasantly surprised that he did several early Roxy album tracks (including stuff off the 1st album that Eno twiddled on). And did them justice, I might add. So I'm thinking the full band will do the same. They bleedin' better or I'll stand outside their swanky hotel rooms all night doing my own versions on casio keyboard, didgeridoo and bagpipes.

because its al total nightmare to use (on purpose prechance??).
for some reason you have to trawl thru loads of muck to post or reply (unless you have a specific link like pete posted) so...
a. its a nightmare to post
b. people are proberbly never going to see anything your post once it disapears inot the mists of MCD's forum

cheers for the insight in to why Westlife are effectivley butchering sweet little baby lambs with their bare hands (sort of) Vinnie.
its the best (only) reason I've got so far.

grrr...... look at me up there, handsome devil that I am.

anyway has anybody invited an MCD rep (like this Niall bloke who seems to deal with the interweb gear, cuase he e-mailed to let me know someone had replied to my post......eh cheers) anyway has anyone ever invited them to come post on the thumped board in a open ended debate on line kind of affair. I mean the arguments are all here, maybe even just invite them to have a read, maybe even make a comment

Or would it just end up blocking the entire world wide interweb as 200 enraged thumped forums members clamber to be the first to tell him exactly what kind of genitals he and his company are.
Or would Pete just rather not have attention brought to his subversive underground millitant websitre and its twisted minions. like.

...and then sue me

possibly

yeah I was wondering about that......could they I mean freedom of speech and all.

except for the bits about Daragh Purcell in the old stuff, I'm not a lawyer but you'd do porridge for that I reckon

lucky I did'nt do it so, hey.

(did'nt!!! ok not me!! stop looking at me with those accusing eyes, all of yis!!)

Pete, what I meant by constructive yet mischievous debate was simply to state the facts as we know them and see how MCD react when it's on their own doorstep. I wasn't talking about spamming them or posting porn or owt. But Pantone is right. It's impossile to find from the homepage etc etc

As long as they play re-make/re-model, I'll be chuffed...
if not, I could play along with you on the comb-with-a-pice-of-paper..

As regards the pricing of concert tickets, promoters can charge what they like, or rather, what they think people will pay. There's no obligation on them to fall into line with European averages or anything. But if you want them to charge you less, don't go to the over priced gigs, tell the bands (or "artistes" as D.P. would have it) why you're not going, tell the promoters why you're not going, and if enough people do that things will change. Just like Tension said.
One of Ireland's largest selling newspapers is planning to run an article about high gig prices tomorrow. So look out for that.

But so long as there are people willing to pay £40 to hear old men and session musos play one song written nearly 30 years ago, we can expect prices to remain high.

So MCD are on safe ground there. But what about the other rumours I continually hear about their mis-conduct? Alleged collusion with billboard companies to grab the best sites, alleged cosy cartels with major european booking agents, alleged contacting bands and threatening/lying to them to put them off dealing with Irish indie promoters, etc, etc? If anyone has substantial evidence of actual wrongdoing (and not just plain greed, which is good), they should contact the consumer affairs people mentioned above and see if something can't be done about it.

Oh Fuck Off you arrogant little shit!!

From the Nick Cave interview on muse at http://www.muse.ie/090301/interview/cave.html :

Your thoughts on your forthcoming Dublin dates ?
I don't know why we're doing that but there you go. We're not playing three nights anywhere else. Maybe it was a computer error. It's always nice to be around Dublin.

Well kids, so far only 2 dates have been announced. So draw your own conclusions.

And as to Nick's "I don't know why we're doing that" i'd say "cashcowforthemoneyasuckerborneveryminuteforthemoneygravytrainforthemoney"

If people were paying me the guts of £40 a look, I'd consider it nice to be around dublin too....

and yes i have been drinking

Cave and the Bad Seeds: £35 x 1600 x 2 (maybe 3 nights?) = £112,000 in the bank earning MCD interest for 2 months. What about Robbie @ Landsdowne: £40 x 30,000(?) = £1,200, 000 and U2: £40 x £80,000 = £3,200,000.
The interest on this money alone is fucking huge - no-one gets paid til the gig is done. MCD could pay for a dozen Mogwai and Low gigs from the interest of the latter two alone. They are a monopoly alright - no problem there, it's the abuse of this dominant postion that could and hopefully will, cause them some serious problems.
Anyone know anything about there tactic of running smaller gigs at a loss in order to drive out independent promoters?
