Venom never really were black metal themsevles though, were they?
They just coined the term with that album...

EDIT: that's not to say I don't think they're pretty deadly, I just never really considered them black metal.

Ah I don't know. They set some basic ideas for what regards stage appearance, symbols, 'laguage' and the likes but I will agree that the sound is quite far away from modern black metal.
