i got hit by a car before but i didn't fall off, i just got carried along on the side of it for a while and got some bruises. cycling in the suburbs seems generally okay though, it's the city centre that terrifies me.

Stick with it... I stopped skating after a bad knock (well it was a pretty bad knock) and I really regret it. Im only starting to go back out again now. And this was nearly two years ago.

Yes.

But get a U-Lock and anyone who gets too close or starts infringing on the cycle lane, WHAM! One in the door for a warning shot, if they don`t back off or if they get stroppy give 'em one in the window. Doesn`t quite work on trucks though...going into town from UCD, that bend in the road halfway between Donnybrook and the Magpie/Leeson Street is fuckin lethal, ALWAYS cunts going RIGHT into the cycle lane, even scraping the curb with their wheels, PRICKS, it's where I've had most close encounters and U-Lock vengeance.

It's fuckin war on those streets!

It's all about the U-lock. keep it on your handle bars for ease of access. Oh yeah and if someone gets out of their car to hit/threaten you keep your bike between you and them. By far the best affordable mode of transport in Dublin.

I prefer to keep it on the frame, in it's holster, for when I has to jack muthafuckas who step to my bike.

I've never had a holster. I've one of those krytonite locks with the holster that leaves the lock right in the way of your legs when your pedaling. So it's handle bars for me I'm afraid.

i see a car like once every five mins when i cycle! gotta love the country only theing thats gonna knock ya down is a drunk driver or a horse in the middle of the road(true story.)
but yez should all be wearing yesser helmets....i know a kid who had a bad crash and his helmet saved his ass big time, it cracked in half and every thing.

by the way anyone have a front derailer for a racer that they aint using and wouldnt mind giving to me??
