one two three four five six
Roadrunner, roadrunner
Going faster miles an hour
Gonna drive past the Stop 'n' Shop
With the radio on
I'm in love with Massachusetts
And the neon when it's cold outside
And the highway when it's late at night
Got the radio on
I'm like the roadrunner

Alright
I'm in love with modern moonlight
128 when it's dark outside
I'm in love with Massachusetts
I'm in love with the radio on
It helps me from being alone late at night
It helps me from being lonely late at night
I don't feel so bad now in the car
Don't feel so alone, got the radio on
Like the roadrunner
That's right

Said welcome to the spirit of 1956
Patient in the bushes next to '57
The highway is your girlfriend as you go by quick
Suburban trees, suburban speed
And it smells like heaven(thunder)
And I say roadrunner once
Roadrunner twice
I'm in love with rock & roll and I'll be out all night
Roadrunner
That's right

Well now
Roadrunner, roadrunner
Going faster miles an hour
Gonna drive to the Stop 'n' Shop
With the radio on at night
And me in love with modern moonlight
Me in love with modern rock & roll
Modern girls and modern rock & roll
Don't feel so alone, got the radio on
Like the roadrunner

O.K., now you sing Modern Lovers
(Radio On!)
I got the AM
(Radio On!)
Got the car, got the AM
(Radio On!)
Got the AM sound, got the
(Radio On!)
Got the rockin' modern neon sound
(Radio On!)
I got the car from Massachusetts, got the
(Radio On!)
I got the power of Massachusetts when it's late at night
(Radio On!)
I got the modern sounds of modern Massachusetts
(Radio On!)
I've got the world, got the turnpike, got the
(Radio On!)
I've got the, got the power of the AM
(Radio On!)
Got the, late at night, (?), rock & roll late at night
(Radio On!)
The factories and the auto signs got the power of modern sounds
(Radio On!)
Alright
Right, bye bye!

Did any of those links point at "River" (by J. Mitchell)
I think that might be the best song ever written
Or maybe "McAlpine's Fusiliers"

"This Lamb Sells Condos" by Final Fantasy is the best song I've heard for the first time this year

I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed.
Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldn't leave her if I tried.

I thought love was more or less a given thing,
Seems the more I gave the less I got.
What's the use in tryin'?
All you get is pain.
When I needed sunshine I got rain.

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldn't leave her if I tried

BRILLLLLLLOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Redemption song by Bob Marley is one of favourite songs even after its been played to death.

I was thinking last night that this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-avJdGnHe0

is one of my favourite songs ever. What's She Like by Dexys Midnight Runners (I'm sure Stan Bowles is with me on this one), apart from being a cracking tune, it does a couple of things really cleverly. It (a) lets us know that the only way Kevin Rowland can express what his girl is like is by yoddeling and soft shoe shuffling on a street and (b) slags off the british middle classes by using them to describe everything his girl is not like...

I like the way the song itself slips between a song about his girl and a conversation about how he has to sing a song to try let you know what his girl is about... my only regret is that the video (as great as it is, check out the drummer... creepy...) is only about 4 min long and the album version is about 15mins or something, so you do miss a fantastic operatic end section and this cracking closing line...

Brilliant

Absolutely the greatest living Irishman. I love the next song on the album, it slips from that one into it. Melody overload.
I have a documentary on VHS off the telly from some years back and in it he is asked why he makes music...his reply..." To show that I'm Irish and not shit".

Thanks for the link Pantone.

This is brilliant in so many ways:

If You Don't Cry
Softly the crystals falling on 17th Street
do their dance and die and are gone
Millions of crystal balls
roll around your feet
and nothing gets done

An hour goes by
She doesn't

If you don't cry
it isn't love
If you don't cry
then you just don't feel it deep enough

Dying all day in thousands of little ways
Dancing alone and drinking a lot
Closing the clubs
and haunting the cabarets
looking for what

Another five years off your life...

If you don't cry
it isn't love
If you don't cry
then you just don't feel it deep enough

A year goes by
She doesn't...

If you don't cry
it isn't love
If you don't cry
then you just don't feel it deep enough

musts spread rep, etc. great song!

What's She Like by Dexys Midnight Runners (I'm sure Stan Bowles is with me on this one),
Of course I am.

But I'll see your 'What's She Like' and raise you a 'Witchita Lineman'.

I know it's predictable but it's true.

Wichita Linesman is mos definitely one of.

So is Just One Look by Doris Troy. A cover of it by Linda Ronstadt was used in the booze ad. It's fuckin amazing. Vocals are so perfick.

Top runner, (emotional overload), is also Mandocello by Cheap Trick. Possibly the most heartbreaking song I've heard in years and structurally seamless. Pretty little time changes. Simple but beautiful bassline. Sappy flowery middle eight. Geddit bitches.

Magnetic fields were deadly. great song

(1957) dimitri tiomkin, ned washington covered by nina simone although I love the David Bowie version best!

Love me love me love me
Say you do
Let me fly away
With you
For my love is like
The wind
And wild is the wind

Give me more
Than one caress
Satisfy this
Hungriness
Let the wind
Blow through your heart
For wild is the wind

You...
Touch me...
I hear the sound
Of mandolins
You...
Kiss me...
With your kiss
My life begins
Youre spring to me
All things
To me

Dont you know youre
Life itself
Like a leaf clings
To a tree
Oh my darling,
Cling to me
For were creatures
Of the wind
And wild is the wind
So wild is the wind

Wild is the wind
Wild is the wind

Amazing song. It was named after the mandecello instrument used as the main instrument in the song, it's a cross between a guitar,a mandolin and a cello funnily enough.
Most Cheap Trick songs would qualify for best songs ever written lists.

The thing that sounds like a guitar?
Oh here's one.... it looks like a bouzouki. I wonder where the cello comes into it.

edit: here's one that looks like it took after a cello
