is one of my favourite songs ever. What's She Like by Dexys Midnight Runners (I'm sure Stan Bowles is with me on this one), apart from being a cracking tune, it does a couple of things really cleverly. It (a) lets us know that the only way Kevin Rowland can express what his girl is like is by yoddeling and soft shoe shuffling on a street and (b) slags off the british middle classes by using them to describe everything his girl is not like...

You know, the ones who parade all their possessions
And put fabulous and super in each sentence
Oh yeah, I know the ones
Well I don't really like these scumbags
May I be clear on this point. Sure
She's not a bit like that

I like the way the song itself slips between a song about his girl and a conversation about how he has to sing a song to try let you know what his girl is about... my only regret is that the video (as great as it is, check out the drummer... creepy...) is only about 4 min long and the album version is about 15mins or something, so you do miss a fantastic operatic end section and this cracking closing line...

Well, that's my story,
The strongest thing I've ever seen

Brilliant

un-usefully, i don't have a link for mine, but i heard for the first time whilst slightly drunk in bed and listening my iPod on random. the screen's been broken for the best part a year so i never have any idea whats on the thing anymore. anyhow, i had ages ago put on some of the bruce springsteen live album without listening to all of it, so in the middle of growing up he does this little speech about his parents and screams about rock and roll at the end of it. its earth shatteringly good.

Kiss me again by Dinosaur is one of my favourites. I can't work uploads and links so you're going to have to take my word for it. I think it's Arthur Russel at his best.

Yeah, presume that's the one at the start of The River on Live 1975 - 1985? That's incredible. Without a doubt my favourite live album.

Brilliant

Yes!

from one of the greatest albums of all time.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the greatest song ever written....

Queen & Bowie: Under Pressure.

All things to all men, at random:

" Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care
For the people on the edge of the night"

Which, in essence, is truly what love is. No matter what. Yes?

I'm betting on Dudley's hoss out of that lot so far.

Contenders for me, in terms of gut-wrenchingly awesome songs are Bring it on Home to Me by Sam Cooke (featuring jaysis knock the wind out of you backing vocals by Lou Rawls) and Knocks Me Off My Feet or I Believe When I Fall in love etc by Stevie Wonder. Hot on their heels is Harlem by Bill Withers. Genuinely amazing shit. Someone post up links please as I don't know what I'm doing. Thanks.
