well we do this every year so why break with habit.....

I can never recall half the gigs I was at, but off the top of my head, these

Bonny Price Billy in Whelans
Swans in Button Factory
Joanna Newsom in Grand Canal Theatre
Belle and Sebastian in Grand Canal Theatre
Teenage Fanclub in the Academy

didn't make it to any festivals this year, or gigs outside Ireland so the choice is limited enough I suppose.

Will think of more in time

Portico Quartet at Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge
Whale Watching Tour at NCH
Joanna Newsom at Grand Canal Theatre
Brian Eno's Apollo at NCH
Philip Glass at NCH

Todd Rundgren playing A Wizard A True Star in London in february (his set of Robert Johnson covers wasnt so great)
Tortoise in Whelans
Roy Harper at the Grand Canal Theatre
Boa Morte at Bewleys

i was at fuck all gigs this year. Didn't like Rangda

jason and the scorchers (kilkenny)
dex romweber duo (kilkenny)
mission of burma (dublin)
mudhoney (dublin)
the hold steady (manchester)
titus andronicus (dublin)
hoodoo gurus (london)

Plenty of great gigs this year but the best by a long shot:

Goldfrapp @ the Olympia

Just...amazing. Couldn't believe it. I wasn't overly impressed with the new album and I'd seen them live before where they were very good but hardly mindblowing. This was something else though.

oh, and Prince of course.

Ex/ Brass Unbound
Peter Brotzman Chicago Tentet (Copenhagan)
Karina Buhr (Brazilian lass)

Belle and Sebastian in Grand Canal Theatre

GBV in Boston
Jens Lekman @ Whelans
Tallest Man @ Whelans
LCD @ Tripod & EP
Wolf Parade @ Vicar St. & EP
Built to Spill @ Primavera
Philip Glass @ NCH

I'm sure there's more that's not coming to mind too.

can't remember most of the gigs but these stood out.

big gig:
pavement
the wedding presant
newsom
shrinebuilder

little gig:
jogging launch
derek dalton benefit
ballroom goodbye gigs
dinah brand launch

overall, not nearly enough metal was seen this year.

Arcade Fire were incredible on Sunday in the O2,
Holy Fuck in Whelans was awesome,
As was Midlake in Vicar Street (the February gig)

But my highlight was Beach House in Vicar Street which was something very special indeed.

Also for the nostalgia (and much more) Therapy doing Troublegum in Vicar Street and The Wedding Present doing Bizarro in The Academy were both amazing.

Godspeed on Friday could eclipse all of the above though.

75% of the gigs I've been to this year have been in the past 6 weeks or so ?!?!

My old brain is having trouble remembering, but of what I can remember:

No Age @ Foggy Jam
GBV @ NYC
Pavement @ Tripod
Pavement\Les Savy Fav\PSB @ Primavera
Steve Mason\LCD\Fever Ray @ EP
Mudhoney @ Button Factory
Mission Of Burma @ Crawdaddy
Liars @ Whelans

I didn't see enough gigs this year damn you work.

75% of No Age at Whelans (til my ears started to give up)
The Ex/ Brass Unbound at the button factory (gig of the year by a mile)
Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp. at the Lower Deck
Popicalia (forget which one)
Childern Under Hoof at Whelans
Groom at the Lower Deck
So Cow at Whelans was great too.
Was Dalek at the twisted Pepper this year too ?
Don Vito in Liepzig
Hands Up Who Wants To Die in Berlin.

Lie ins incredibly drunk heckler at whelans when there was about 10 people present is my man of the year. He tried to join the band if I recall correctly ? Good god he was pissed, I looked straight edge next to him.

I'm forgetting loads

My favourite was Converge in Whelans. Fantastic.
Also pleased by:
Field Music (& Subplots) in Crawdaddy.
Beach House in Primavera & Vicar St.
NoMeansNo in Button Factory last week.
Various Young Hearts Run Frees.
B&S at Grand Canal Theatre.
Neil Young at the Point.
Retribution Gospel Choir in Whelans.
Pavement at Primavera were good skit.
