is it realistic to play a gig in cork one night and belfast the next or vice versa - any thoughts? 5 /6 hours? down to dublin or cross country?

In any other country it'd be no problem

in Ireland its "miiiles" " thats the other end of the country for fucks sake"

Its doable, just get up early after the first nights gig to get the driving over and done with. Then try and find somewhere to crash for a few hours before the gig. The big mistake a lot of people make is leaving about 6/7 hours before the gig cause thats how long it usually takes. But considering the amount of road you have to cover somethings bound to go wrong somewhere with a crash up ahead or tire puncture or just slow cunts on the road. Just hoon it down the road and get there, then crash.

you don't need to 'crash'
seriously, leave at like 10 or 11am, get there for about 6, have some dinner, go to the gig. it's nothing, bands do it all the time.

But where to park the tour bus in Belfast?

or Cork?

its about 7 hours on the way down. and for some reason it takes at least an hour less on the way back up (we've done it in 5 1/2). The journey time isn't so bad except for the frustration of sitting in the traffic in all the towns. you arrive pretty drained.

It is doable though - but it makes much more sense to try and get a gig in on the way. Dublin/Galway etc....

Than again - if you've only got 2 gigs and these are the places on offer then why not. Bring a selection of quality mix tapes, some refreshments (avoid alcohol due to unnecessary piss stops), some reading material (porno is recommended). Bring a driver who isn't actually in the band so everyone else gets to sleep and arrive at the gig refreshed and ready to ROCK!!!!

Get a neurotic, dope smoking driver prone to frequent fits of road rage and you should be kept entertained.

I'm not in a band but I have done this drive three times for Leo's gigs and it is a balls, but if you leave early and get there for about four o'clock there's plenty of time to get the legs stretched and get in the mood for the rock. It's taken between 6 and 7 hours each time I've gone including a couple of grub/petrol/pish stops.

The trick to doing this drive is to get totally pissed the night before stay up boozing all night, try to pack the van in the morning, forget shit then sleep all the way down to cork, simple.
Anyway a seven hour drive is nothing, losers try fourteen hours from Bialystock Poland to Leipzig Germany. Crazy Polish drivers and shit roads, I'll never complain about driving in Ireland again. Back in a week hope Ireland is still cool.
