Belfast: The Cops Are Gettign Restless (1 Viewer)

NOT A FUN sit down protest outside the city hall in Belfast April 8th. The cops failed to give proper warning and began lifting people off the road. Several people sitting/lying on the road were battoned. The early evening local news showed how much the cops mishandled the whole situation.

14 arrested, we believe all have been released (one youngster status unknown, but his dad was in the cop station). They have been charged with a selection of the following:
- obstruction
- malicious sitting
- criminal damage (jam being spilled on a cop)
- assault (holding onto a cop's leg when he batons you as you lie on the ground)
- disorderly behaviour


Just to keep it on topic: certain punks were involved. Cormac continues his bid for multimedia superstar whoredom.

Charges

According to Indymedia, one of the charges being brought was "Malicious Sitting." How funny is that?

the funny thing about protests these days is after the burlington/reclaim the streets etc people seem somewhat disapointed when there ISNT a ruckus at a protest....
"what was the protest like?" "shit. it was boreing, we all stood around for a while then went home." "did you fight the pigs?!" "nah, it was fucking shit" hehe people are funny and illogical, because obviously when shit does go down we are so angry about it. its weird. its like when eirecore went crazy then everyone complained it was becoming a cheap gossip site but secretly checked it all the same for that particular reason. i dont understand people, myself included.
well that was a rant.
i'll bet it was the socialists that were at the malicious sitting. and malicious chanting. and malicious placard waving. and malicious newspaper selling. and malicious giving young kids socialist banners. and malicious claiming all the responsibility for any work that goes into anything but dropping any responsibility on to the poor spas around them when theres trouble. and numerous other shit ways of being a stupid boring grey drab bastards.

Arrests

I wasn't arrested, Tina and I were both dragged off by the cops, but we both escaped when they went to beat other people up.
Darren got arrested though, and so did Tom, guy with the big beard.
I dunno who else got arrested, but apparently police arrested a blind man. Fucking idiots.

Apparently "malicious sitting" is a more extreme form of obstruction. If you block a highway by standing they can charge you with obstruction. If you sit on it and refuse to move they charge you with obstruction and MS. Apparently you don't even need to be sitting to be charged with MS. If you stand or lie down in such a way as to make your removal more difficult then you can be charged with it.

I don't have a list of everybody arrested. Tina, Darren, Cormac all got lifted and carried back to the rows of landrovers but dearrested themselves once the cops lost the plot and started weighing in with batons. This meant that some of the next batch of arrestees were not as calm and so the cops attention had been focused on other things.
