Bass strings (1 Viewer)

Can someone explain bass strings to me, the gauges and what not? What type of string for what style or does that matter.

I haven't bought strings in about 15 years and then it was whatever i could afford and i haven't played in nearly as long.I know this might be a thick question but there you go.

I don't it matters too much about the style, but I wouldn't use very heavy strings if I were playing fast stuff with a pick as they're quite stiff. Best advice would be to try a few basses belonging to other people and see which strings you like and ask them the string gauge they use.

I think I've either 40 -100 or 45 - 105 rotosound swing bass strings on mine.

Hey it's new string time for me as I've managed to wear out my e string. I normally use rotosounds but was wondering if anybody had any other recommendations, what do you other bass players use?

last few sets i've gotten have been these yokes:

the lightest ghs bass boomers.
(on an epiphone thunderbird)

i go for the light gauge coz of fast playing (and coz of power chords on the bass are a bit harder with heavier, tighter strings )

not sure really why i go for the ghs ones.

maybe next time, i'll splash out and try one of these sets:
