Uzi and Ari

ua_pic04.jpg

Hailing from the likes of Utah, Texas, Alabama and Idaho, Uzi & Ari are as much an amalgamation of sundry musical genres as they are a geographical montage. Singer and songwriter for the band, Ben Shepard builds craftworks of cuisenarted beats coupled by tap-yourfoot pop melodies that drape over saturated guitars and gloomy pianos

Rioting quieter than most, Uzi and Ari skirt around the edges of acts like Mogwai and The Postal Service – beats are supplemented by drones and twinkles direct from the outer reaches of the solar system. With the new LP "Headworms" Shepard and co. have delivered on the promise of the previous 2, garnering praise on both sides Atlantic and are now geared up for an epic tour throughout Europe.

Fiasco, fiesta

Fiasco, fiesta is a band. Sometimes it’s one man, sometimes it’s three. There were more and could be again, but at the moment they’re settling on three. They play songs of a poppy variety. They would like to think they have a few upbeat little ditties, but for every upbeat song, they probably have a sad one too. Which kind of makes for interesting listening. They play their songs using keyboards and guitars and drums. They used to use handclaps, but thought that was a little bit clichéd, so they stopped it. Now they just keep busy with a little bit of singing. They think you should come to the show, if even just to see what they’re like. They would thank you for it and if you gave them the opportunity they would probably shake you by the hand. They’re nice people. At least that’s what their mammies say.

Land Lovers

Land Lovers honed their synth-pop-rock oeuvre for action in a city rehearsal tower, and it is bringing pleasure to the few this winter. Initially the sole concern of Pádraig Cooney, the band is now four-strong and still recruiting . The excellent debut album "Romance, Romance" is out now

Yeh Deadlies

Yeh Deadlies are an oddball troupe plying mashed-up rockabilly-inflected pop. The band is comprised of ex-members of (retards), B.S.O.B.K., and too many other acts to mention. Drawing on influences from the Lemonheads to Link Wray, Voided by Ponces to the Magnetic Fields, it is a fugitive sound, as familiar as it is peculiar. Their debut the ghost chipper ep was released stateside last year and they are currently working on a follow-up. Live dates with The Dudley Corporation, So Cow and Stoat have been well received by at lease 30% of the people present.
