I've some mono audio tracks taken from old video & audio tapes that i need to get spruced up a bit.

Any suggestions? Any magic software that can make them sound better?

Izotope RX is probably the best restoration software on the market at the moment.

You can download a fully working trial, think it's 15 days or something.

Then you could take them into Reaper and fiddle with EQ and what not.
Some cool freeware pluggins that could help here:

There's no auto quick fix though....not yet.

If you're stuck fire them over to me and I could have a look too.
