what can i say. the man was gifted. such a great range of work. some faves tracks of mine-a little lost, arms around you, thats us/unwild combination, you can make me feel bad, tree house, is it all over my face. is it hard to pick up the disco stuff he did in its original formats? i'd imagine it is. any recommends on any similar disco stuff?

two great compilations on Harmless records.

Jumpin' [3xLP] 1997

Haven't got any of "the chello stuff" yet - love the soul jazz comp - "in the light of a miracle" must be one of THE most successsful attempts to actually capture an entire summer's day in one tune.....

Krossie

in the unlikely event of me ever djing at a beach rave at dawn, that is what i will be playing. oh yes.

i have the soul jazz comp and a few other bits, am taking note of various recommendations....

I got 24-24 Music by Dinosaur L which has the original versions of Go Bang and Corn Belt. I got it in Freebird and as far as I know it's quite easily available, but of dubious legality. Ask the guy in Big Brother records, he's usually nice about ordering stuff in.

I absolutely love Arthur Russell. The man seemed to work on a different level to everyone else, except maybe Brian Wilson.

Not sure if "any similiar disco" exists but if it does I'd like to hear it.

iu just recorded a cover version of get around to it w/ tracey thorn and ewan pearson....=slick

The two Disco Not Disco compilations would probably be up your alley if you like Dinosaur. Same with the New York Noise and Mutant Disco comps. Or anything on Ze or 99 Records, for that matter.

I'm going with Another Thought as my favourite Arthur Russell release. Possibly one of my top 20 favourite albums ever.

Still, I've heard a few of the tracks on those compilations and a little bit on 99 eg. Liquid Liquid and ESG. Nobody does Disco like Arthur.

It was great hearing In the Light of the Miracle on your show a few weeks back.

Kiss me Again is a beautiful track

Appreciated...total legend.
World of Echo is one of my favourate albums...must dig it out later, in fact definetly will.

Heres a good start on some more disco

Arthur Russel, just has got me into so much different kinds of music and he ties it all together...one for the road...LEGEND!

amazing musician, composer, and what a voice. i'm amazed he's not more widely listened to... 'you have did the right thing when you put that skylight in', 'arm around you', 'little lost', 'in the light of a miracle', 'pop your funk', the whole of world of echo... great music for smooching/dancing/having a good day.

I remembered this thread from a whiles back and got the new Arthur Russel release in the post this week. New as in unreleased.
Its called Springfield.
Its brilliant stuff usual processed beats and cello wokouts theres also a DFA remix on it (but the original is better)...go get
