JULIUS GEEZER RECORDS PRESENTS

APPENDIX OUT
IRISH TOUR 2002

Alasdair Roberts and his APPENDIX OUT (from Scotland) have been creating modern old-world pagan folk music since their debut single on Will Oldham's Palace Records label back in 1996. Ali Roberts has collaborated with such luminaries as SONGS:OHIA, INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, RIAN MURPHY, SEAN O'HAGAN and more recently, himself, JASON MOLINA (SONGS:OHIA) and WILL OLDHAM (BONNIE PRINCE BILLIE/PALACE) have recorded a record together.
Their records are released through such fine labels as DRAG CITY and SECRETLY CANADIAN.
The credits don't get much higher than these.

But there's a reason for this. APPENDIX OUT create music like no one else. Equal parts pagan drone and delicate folk, there is always something there mysteriously ancient. These wicker men have the soil of the past under their fingernails as they play a contemporary vision of folk music. Alasdair's voice is like a nightingale sighing, like a child's footstep on the stair stealing out at night. It's fragile and warm, it has innocence yet is red-eyed and world-weary.

As well as standard instruments, their use of clarinet, dulcimer and Hungarian bagpipes add rich fibre's to their musical tapestry. MOJO said - "this stirring third LP finds them coming out of their collective shell in grand style.....the Appendix Out sound now travels in a big truck rather than a small car........the music is a definite step forward." NME said - "Appendix Out are situated deep within the folk tradition. The eerie wear of Ali Roberts' vocal vibrates at the centre of a slow-shimmering pile of spider-picked acoustics, slow-brushing drums and widescreen keyboards, creating a sound so spectral that it feels almost like they're broadcasting over wires from another century.

Their new e.p. "A warm and Yeasty Corner" will be out in time for the gig via Cargo Distribution.
