JELLO BIAFRA and CONFLICT, assisted by
Chumbawamba members and Crass Against
the War!
Peace Not War, the Stop The War Coalition
organisation known for the album that brought
together Ms. Dynamite, Massive Attack, Billy Bragg,
Ani DiFranco and Public Enemy against the war, a
re now asking all supporters to go out and buy
their new anti-war single.
It only takes a few thousand to get into the
dumbed-down pop charts, and with so many
millions against the war it's another simple way
to show visible dissent.
An Alliance of Alternative Artists have been brought
together for a Triple AAA-side single 'SALT In The Wound'.
All the acts have a long-term record of dissent against
hypocrisy, and each have come out from a long period
of inactivity to contribute to this collaboration.
The single features ex-Dead Kennedys front-man
Jello Biafra guesting as
"the Cowboy President From Hell"
with CARPETBOMBERS FOR PEACE, an impromptu
band that ncludes members of Chumbawamba,
the Adverts' TV Smith, and rapper Lemn Sissay,
on 'Allah Save Queens'.
Australian band CHANGE is a Stop The War
affiliated band produced by Crass, with their track
'Ceasefire'.
And activist punks CONFLICT contribute a
brand-new track, 'A Gaping Hole'.
Peace Not War organisers are asking ALL their
supporters to buy the single in the week of
release - March 24th - to register their protest
vote by putting this anti-war single into the pop charts!
All profits will go to the Stop the War Coalition.
A Stop The War spokesperson said:
"There's millions against the war, if only activists buy it,
we'll have a hit!
We're aware that there's a far bigger constituency of
'armchair protesters', so we're planning a vast viral
e-mail campaign, with the help of s
ympathetic organisations' databases, with links to
where they can buy it on the
internet for £2.99. It's already on pre-sale
now at HMV and Sisterray.
A similar campaign recently put eccentric oddball
John Otway into the Top 10.
" He continued: "Our first objective is to stop
the war -single in the charts is one more very
visible vote of dissent.
But even if we can't stop those in power, at least
we can give people the opportunity to say
'Not in my name', and importantly it will introduce
the politics of protest to the pop-stars fed youngsters
of today." SALT In The Wound' Triple AAA single for
the protest vote.
