I'm basically clueless when it comes to amps/watts/voltage; I'm hoping
someone on thumped can sprinkle some knowledge over this question...

I have a dead AC adaptor for an advent 7109a laptop in my hands and I
need to get a new one asap. I was looking at a few universal/replacement
ones on komplett.ie. they're categorised by watt, either 90W or 120W. I can't
see a mention of wattage anywhere on my computer, the battery or the ac adaptor though.

I'm confused. does the wattage matter? will stuff explode if I buy the wrong power supply. help!

what it says on the ac adaptor:

input: 100-240V ~ 50-50Hz 1.7A
output: 20V --- 3.25A

the listed output on most of the adaptors I've seen are 19V instead of 20V as well.
I'm assuming 1V isn't significant. as I said, clueless...

here are a couple that seem compatible...

Fortron/Source Universal Notebook AC Adapter 120W (also available in 90W)

Trust Notebook Power Adapter, PW-1300p

thanks.

nice one. yeah. I was thinking...

anyway, I ended up going downtown in the pissing rain (and had a confrontation with a load of wahs on the way out my gate) and I bought a 90W universal adaptor with loads of voltage settings and fancy input attachments. seems to be working a treat.

still baffled as to why some of them were 90W and others were 120W though.

but it's working now, so fuckit.
