Anyone watch Ireland women beat N.I. 3-0 and Hungary away 4-0??
just wondering what you thought of it.

was at a family gathering and funeral both of those days.
I casually follow Celtic these days, including both the Celtic B (Rocco Vata) and the women's team. The women's team seem to have a great thing going. They narrowly missed out on the league last year and then, inexplicably, offloaded half of their team in the closed season. But they're doing well and one of their main players is Caitlin Hayes. I don't know how the hell she wasn't called up to the Ireland squad before now (she's 27), but she's deadly, and has done deadly in her first 2 internationals.

RIP Francis Lee (1944 - 2 October 2023)
don't need to tell you about him.
some of Franny's greatest hits:

Lee scored to make it 4-2 at Newcastle on the final day of the season 11-5-1968. City hung for 4-3 win to claim title ahead of Man Utd.

Franny scored 33 goals in 1971-72 Division 1. A whopping 15 were penalties but he didn't like anyone else diving

the VAR crew didn't realise the ref called it offside and when the VAR said ''check complete'' ref wrongly thought they were confirming offside decision and let the game resume.
after play resumed the laws don't allow the officials to intervene...
the whole process was very rushed. so we do need we need to give 'em time...

Already mentioned elsewhere -
Gerry Ryan (1955 - 15 October 2023)
Gerry who had a stroke in 2007 and later had kidney cancer has passed away aged 68.

After winning a LOI title and FAI Cup w/ Bohs, Ryan moved to Derby in 1977 before joining promotion chasing Brighton. From 1979 the Seagulls stayed in Division 1 for four seasons in their only previous spell in top flight. Ryan was a sub in both 1983 FA Cup Final and replay - one 7 Irish players in the two 12 man squads that day.
A tackle by Palace's Henry Hughton ended Gerry's career in 1985.
Gerry won 18 Ireland caps (1 goal) mostly playing mostly as a left winger.
In the 90's he returned to Brighton as Liam Brady's assistant manager.

When Chris Hughton became Brighton manager, Gerry talked of his friendships with the Hughton family:

Gerry Ryan and Terry Connor's goals knock Liverpool out 1984 FA Cup - as Brighton had also done in 1983.

Charlie Aitken (1942 - 29 October 2023).
Scottish left back for Aston Villa from 1961-76, making a club record 660 appearances.
Charlie's career spanned Villa's late 60's / early 70's slump into Division 3 and rapid rise back to Division 1 in 1975.
He finished his career at the NY Cosmos in 1976-77 playing with Pele and Beckenbauer.

Irish women currently playing in horrendous thunderstorm in Albania.
Apocalyptic weather for about 15 minutes!
Check out Albania v Ireland on RTE 2 now.

Match stopped at HT in Albania. still extreme rain and pitch dangerous and waterlogged. unlikely to resume tonight but the ref will give it an hour to make a decision.
Plan B is to play tomorrow.
Score was 0-0 and game was a dangerous farce from before 20th minute.

In terrible news Saudi has got the 2034 World Cup. The Aussies withdrew and today was deadline.

Second half kicked off after all and game is now in 60th minute in Skroder.
RTE coverage moved to RTE News channel (Sky 517).
Still 0-0.

Ronnie Rees (1944 - 2023)
Welsh winger who played key role in Coventry's rise from Division 3 to Division 1 in 60's. He later played for WBA and Forest in Division 1. Rees earned 39 caps (3 goals).
Ronnie had a serious stroke as far back as 1995 and had been living in care.

Was listening to football scores coming in last Saturday. This game sounded nuts -

FA Cup 1st Round 4-11-2023.
4th tier Swindon v 5th tier Aldershot.
MAGIC OF THE FA CUP!
Swindon 4-7 Aldershot.

The Shots scored in the first minute, got a superb second and were a record breaking 7-0 up after 58 minutes.
Then Swindon scored 4 times.
No non-league team had ever scored 7 against a league side in an FA Cup tie before.
Second Swindon goal was good too, as Aldershot tired.

Miah Dennehy (1950 - 10 November 2023)
Cork Hibs, Forest and Ireland (11 caps / 2 goals) among many others.
