To celebrate International womens day i'm listening to the new albums by:
Prince Rama
Like an indie Icona Pop - leggy new york model types sing pretend new age dance nonsense. Decent stuff though, very like Yacht. One of them is possibly in the process of finding God though.
Thao and the Get Down Stay down
kudos to @scutter for finding this one. On first listen it sounds like a super strong album. Kinda like Tuneyards but minus some of her stranger instrumentation and vocalisations.
Esperanza Spalding
Jazz pop. Real proper jazz chords and arrangements on this one. I know her vaguely through Prince but she seems to be breaking out into a wider indie realm at the moment. Like a less fake Janelle Monae.
Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation (came out last year but only found it a few weeks ago)
krautrock, chanty stuff. I should be bored by this but find it really engaging.
HAPPY WIMMINS DAY WIMMEN
I bought that album with a backing band composed of honey bees. It's great. Drones.
Spiritualized Featured on Album of Bee Sounds
That sounds really interesting, surprised there hasn't been more of a buzz on the Internet about it.
And I completely forgot to look for it in Tower today. There was a small bit on Twitter back in January, but just re-tweets of the Pitchfork article really. It's very relaxing.
