Is 1978 the best year for music? I've thought so for ages. Here's Beato's video in the subject. Loads he doesn't mention.

He might as well have called it “the year I was 16 and got into music”.
in the same vein, he is wrong. 1991 is. loveless. blue lines. achtung baby. screamdelica. nevermind. ten. spiderland (which i'm not really familiar with, bizarrely). emotions (by mariah carey). the black album.

When I read all this "best year for music" stuff, I keep coming back to those lads out in Vietnam or Cambodia or wherever, you fixed all those broken cassette tapes and had reference of time or scenes or whatever and made their own music without knowing what was cool or not

All these guides seem to go heavy on critically approved stuff
Like disco is just as importnt or valuable or as good as punk
Duran Duran are as important as the Smiths

If you want to know what a good song is, or one that pasts the test of time, just play it at a wedding or a party
Listening to it on your own in your bedroom a 100 times is not necessarily the same as good
