Ireland women massively overachieved for a long time and Wales last night was their worst result for years.

There is still no striker who can score regularly against good teams.
The defense was terrible without old head Niamh Fahey. Heather Payne had a very tough time at right back against Fishlock, especially in the first half.
Several players were not in their best positions and the younger players didn't make much impact.

Poor all round. Last night was a reality check.

They're basically shit without Denise O'Sullivan in the middle. She runs everything for that team, focal point.

She's the women's version of Wes Hoolahan, except she usually gets to start games.

I was walking by Parc Tailteann the other day and it was obvious a big match was about to happen. I considered going in and watching the gaa. Turns out its €20 a head ticket only. eff that.

Knew there was someone I forgot to mention!
Other than McCabe, Denise is the best player we have.

Sorry to say I only heard about Chris Nicholl's death today.
Chris (1946 - 24 February 2024) had dementia. He was interviewed by his former Southampton player Alan Shearer for Shearer's 2017 documentary on dementia with Chris saying he had avoided being diagnosed but knew what he was facing.

Chris was a tough cookie, exactly the sort of tall, commanding central defender that no one would relish playing.

Born in Cheshire, Nicholl played for Halifax and Luton before joining Division 3 side Aston Villa on their way to 1972 promotion. There he won two League Cups and helped re-establish them in Division 1.
Nicholl joined Southampton (1977-83) where under Lawrie McMenemy they became a force in Division 1.

Nicholl played for Northern Ireland from 1974 (often alongside his cousin Jimmy Nicholl) including all of their 1982 World Cup Finals matches aged 35. He won 51 caps.

Chris took over from McMenemy as manager of the Saints from 1985-91 and managed Walsall in the mid 90's. Chris assisted McMenemy as N.I. manager in from 1998-2000.

Strade Bianche 2024 - one of the best bike races - is on tomorrow, Saturday 2nd March.
The white gravel roads were heavily used in Italian bike races until the war but rapidly fell out of fashion afterwards. So it was a brave decision to bring back this extinct surface in 2007 under the name Monte Paschi Eroica (refering to a return to heroic era of cycling). Prior to that the race had been a popular Granfondo event for a decade attracting thousands of amateur cyclists.
So it's lots of white gravel hills in Tuscany and a beautiful / brutal climb to the old town square in the Siena (a UNESCO World Heritage site).
The 2024 race is the only the 18th edition and that's only reason the race doesn't have the status of Lombardia and the other one day monuments.
Such is Strade's success that gravel roads are no longer an unusual sight in other races.
