I had a similar-ish problem a while ago where the car had reduced power and cut out every time I stopped. It turned out that one of the hoses leading to the carburettor had a nic in it and was letting air in (or out?), which reduced the power. It wasn't a big job for the mechanic to fix it...

Does it have to be new? You could try Freecycle. Old PCs pop up there every so often, and most should be capable of word processing.
