Minor Pleasures (2 Viewers)

Beach day out. going surfing. Bought a board last year and finally giving it a go
I've gone surfing a good few times - back when I was working in the US on my J1 in the early 90s, then a few times with my brothers since. Last time maybe 10 years ago, must go again. Never got any good at it, but man it's really enjoyable (so long as there's waves, and they're not too big)

The water was amazing g but there fuck all waves. At least we brought the boards. Next time perhaps

Rapscallions rather than gurriers, one of the locals' two kids tried to take the hat off my head. And then charge me a quid to get it back.
I looked the seven(?) year old in the eye and said "Listen to me: possession is 90% of the law, so you owe me a quid".
I don't like that!
Well, yeah kiddo, it's my hat. Their adorableness did actually make them a couple of quid. With other rubes.

Later the younger said "OK so, give me a penny then, I have one, I need another".
There was pencil's and paper on the table so I said "Give me that penny and you'll get another penny".

So I put the penny under the paper, grabbed a pencil and stenciled out a penny. "There's a penny". Both kids were genuinely amazed even while I did it. And then they didn't bother anyone else for the rest of the evening.

"DAD! DAD!"
Dad said "I've never actually seen that before myself. I've thought them nothing".
He certainly thought them to hustle.

Must be said, he is actually a really lovely dad. And his cheeky kids are very hard not to like.

These pricks are genuinely amazing at playing air hockey. Because we have an air hockey machine now.

Like, there's a gang of urchins now, and the one I hadn't met before was like Ronaldo. Boom, goal, that's it. He was also really good at corralling all the other younglings.
Beat me twice, little fucker. And then I ran out of coins.

Me and the dads made sure that everyone shakes hands afterwards and shows respect. (That's loser talk).

we got an exercise bike on friday, to help my wife recover from the broken ankle; paid €40 for it on adverts, a nice spanish chap was selling it. i found out today while trying to find an instruction manual online, that the manufacturer sells the bike for STG£700 on their website.

Have you done any lessons? I needed a good few before I could get anywhere with it. It's just the best fun but I found (haven't been in a few years) that you really have to mind yourself ..... trick for me was to not try to catch every wave .... take plenty of breaks (sitting or lying on the board ideally) and just enjoy the general vibe. If you do manage to catch a wave and surf it into shore it is not imperative that you immediately battle your way out for the next one.

I've had to change my approach to exercise in general to something in line with this over the last few years. I used to be all about pushing through, but now when I push through I just get exhausted/injured

Did a few lessons well over 10 years ago and the lads i was going with are a bit more experienced than me so was hoping I'd pick up some tips. Yeah I figured the same as yourself, only going for the bigger waves that I had a better chance of getting up on the board and taking a breather in between
