You know the ones, like the stuff Nouvelle Vague are peddling. For my ears Tori fucking Amos started it her ridiculous cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Before you knew you had people at gigs doing 'ironic' simplistic versions of MTV hits to chin stroking spas saying 'Oh that's Genie in a Bottle isn't it?! Brilliant!'

I'm still being subjected to Susanna and her Magic Orchestra in work. She does an even more dull, depressing and well, to be honest SHITE version of Love Will Tear Us Apart than NV. I didn't think that was possible. It's not clever or haunting, it's just fucking irritating.. I mean, it can be done well (some of Sun Kill Moons AC/DC covers are lovely) but if you're going to do a whole album of covers, have some fun with it for fucks sake. Give me the Moog Cookbook or Senor Coconut any day.

There, I've got that off my chest. Time for lunch.

On Spanish TV last week they played a video of some Shakira meets celine 'the hossface' Dion girl doing a cover of Nothing Else Matters. It was very powerful. Like an overbearing smell in an unventilated jacks. The string section were wearing black nailpolish.

Yeah I can never understand the love people have for that Nouvelle Vague muck. Rubbish.

I like Nouvelle Vague but the novelty is wearing off a little.

Still, those CDs will be really handy when I'm a thirty-something, dinner-party-throwing professional and am looking for an inoffensive aural accompaniment to Pad Thai.

They'll probably come free with the recipe book or sauce packe -...

!!!
