I think The Catcher In The Rye is still the shittest book I've read

i've a vague memory of reading a book when i was 14 or 15, of some all round good guy action hero implausibly saving the implausibly glamourous director general of the UN in some massively implausible scenario, and them going on to locate the lost library of alexandria.Mentioned it elsewhere, but I reckon Ken Follett would be the worst author I've read.
It's an amazingly divisive book, that. I need to read it again tbh.I think The Catcher In The Rye is still the shittest book I've read

This popped up on twitter this year as well

anyway, i think it was a ken follett book.
LIT ERA TUREHave you ever read Moby Dick though? I'm not the most learned person on the planet when it comes to English, but I felt like almost every 2 pages I read I needed to look up the definition of a word.
It's a good book... but I didn't find it easy to read.
I never finished the bastard. It's good though... it has this kind of weird old school magic reality vibe going through it.LIT ERA TURE
It's not supposed to be easy, it's supposed to change you.
But anyway, in answer to your question no I have not read it yet.
There's a translator guy off on a mad one on twitter today, the full thread is a good laugh
You disgusting worms!
I have never agreed with anything more in my life, such utter bollocks.I think The Catcher In The Rye is still the shittest book I've read
Ah, they could pick worse books to read to be cool.I've been meaning to get to it for years.
There's been a funny uptick in loudly "leftist" twitter people reading it this year because of a few what are basically socialist influencers reading it. Not gonna pretend I haven't been influenced myself.

I got an A2 and did paper two in 45 minuteswow! I wouldn't have had the guts or even the knowhow. Fair play, fair play.
I always wanted to read Pillars as I liked the mini-series but not so sure now...Mentioned it elsewhere, but I reckon Ken Follett would be the worst author I've read.
Initially I picked up some book from a bookshelf when I was desperate, and flipped through it. It was memorably bad, about Afghanistan, I think it was called Lie Down With Lions. I didn't notice the author though.
Years later I was reading something else and I was thinking something along the lines of "man, this is as bad that terrible Afghan book", looked up the author, and it was the same guy.
Later I picked up something called The Pillars of Earth, and I read the intro which set out something along the lines of "This is TRULY Ken Follett's masterpiece", and it went on and on about what a great piece of work Ken had created, epic, etc. So... I fucking took the bait, and started reading. Sure enough: terrible shite.
So, I had a look back at the forward. How could this be considered a masterpiece? Who the fuck thinks that? And I realised that Ken Follett had written his own review... of his own book... and attached it as the book's forward. At that point the penny dropped.
Oh god, how did I forget to mention that one? Awful rubbish.I think The Catcher In The Rye is still the shittest book I've read
Moby Dick is brilliant. I need to read it again.Have you ever read Moby Dick though? I'm not the most learned person on the planet when it comes to English, but I felt like almost every 2 pages I read I needed to look up the definition of a word.

I read a Jack Vance story last night (Turjan of Miir), it didn’t do a lot for me.Possibly my favourite authour is Jack Vance, who mostly used a vocabulary that is quite 19th century sounding at times, but not hard to read really
Think that's from The Dying Earth. The Dying Earth is great, but the two Cugel novellas in it really blow the shit out of everything else in the book. Cugel is fuckin amazing, total scum that you constantly end up rooting for.I got an A2 and did paper two in 45 minutes
