Happy to report that mine arrived today in good nick. Listening to it again now. Track 2 really is a cracker.

Drum and bass sounded dated in the 90s. It completely takes all the power, beauty and elegance of the album and destroys them. That last track in particular is such an anticlimax, it sounds like something the teenage me would have done in Fruity Loops and, rightfully, binned for being derivative and cheesy. Each to their own but as a 7 track album or even a 5 song EP, this would be a masterpiece. As it stands, it's a bit of a muddle that is luckily mostly great songs dotted with a couple of absolute clunkers.

Aphex Twin and Squarepusher took an awful lot from that sound and made it their own.

If there is a teenager out there who could make that tune, present them to me so that I may build a record label around them.

I will say that "Only Tomorrow" is probably one of the best things they've done ever just to show I'm not a complete grump.

I dunno ... I think he has a point. For me the first couple of tracks are glorious. The first two on side 2 are pretty in consequential and if they were not MBV you wouldn't give them much of a second thought. The one-chord thing is an idea that doesn't go anywhere (though it could be tremendous live) and Wonder 2 is an experiment that just doesn't really work. At least that's how I feel today.
