What was the first gig you ever went to?? (1 Viewer)

First gig in Dublin: a Hope Xmas Benefit in the Attic. 1995/6? went with Doyler. Can't remember the bands...Jackbeast and Cheapskate maybe..some Reggea band Yawn also...there were four altogether...Niall, Stevo, Byrnoes, any help?
Jackbeast, Steam Pig, Porn, Brian Bannon and Yawn - december 13 1996. Anything else you need to know about yourself?

Does anyone remember an allnighter in the SFX with Keltic Klan, Napalm Sunday to name a few. Remember going to this gig but can't remember how long ago it was. Probably mid 80's or earlier. Remember a police bike been set on fire outside the venue. Anyone?
i remember that one aright, was amazed to see it on. Children of Lir played too

Hi there, my first gig was unfortunately gary glitter in 1972 at the stadium. The ramones was 1980 in the cabra grand. A great fuckin band. Saw them in the state cinema in 77' and the clash in trinity college in october 77'' with the count bishops supporting. I was at that stranglers gig as well. The atrix supported them. Someone stole jj's leather jacket from the stage and he went fuckin ballistic. Then there was the dandelion market gigs. Fuckin legendary. My band (The strougers) played 4 or 5 gigs there. We were shite and proud of it. Our badge read.''the strougers, faster than the ramones'' ha ha. Great punk gigs in dublin in the 1970's. We used to gatecrash the trinity ball and see great bands like the members and john otway etc. We climbed down this old chimney and landed in this huge fuckin fireplace that was behind the stage where John Otway and wild willy barrett were playing. Crazy stuff. Still go to gigs all the time.

Cheers

More info please on the Strougers, especially if recordings exist.

first general gig was bon jovi in the rds, one of two times i saw them haha and one of them he was "talking to god" and fucking with the weather. kind of creepy

first punk gig was los destructos and w.o.r.m. in the temple i believe, think it was that gig that the skinheads showed up after the dublin match and a brawl ensued, a great first impression that kept me coming to gigs after that haha

dunno what youre talking about... :D

yeah freebase/labrat/2000 strong/band from up north who did the split cd with 2000...shit what were they called again? (fuckin have the cd and all!) was my first involvement and the all ages saturday arvo gigs moved to the savoy then.

there was raging speedhorn another time. and stampin ground.

do you remember that god awful black metal band Wulf? :D

Just re-reading this thread as it's linked from the one going on General at the moment..

Trev, what was the story with that Labrat gig? I remember it being on during the day and it not being all ages? I definately remember trying to get in with a few friends and the guy at the door laughing us away..

And wasn't the Raging Speedhorn gig in Dolans? My god that wass fucking SHITE.

And Wulf released that gig in The High Stool as an album last time I checked...

Big Country 1984 in city hall Cork. My mum wouldn't allow me go to Dublin with my brother to see The Clash the same year (cut the crap tour) :-(

the speedhorn gigs werein dolans, i was one of the ppl helping puttin it on, it was a fuckin joke, the best part was the kids, they were great fun, but my god the band were assholes! jst ignorant fuckin bastards! i hate th band to this day because of there attitude! :)

Think it was the gig of an Italian band called Punkreas, that as the name may suggest, was a typical punk-rock band a 14/15 year old would greatly enjoy but that by older standards is a bit shite. Think it might have been in the May of 2004, so I was myself 14.

i've a feeling i've already posted this on this thread but my first ever gig was fear factory at the SFX, 1998 (seeing pisschrist played live is still one of the finest moments of my life), and my first punk gig was oi polloi, puget sound and homebrew in the basement of frazers, i think april 2000. also first time i met barry lennon. actually i'm fairly sure that anecdote is somewhere in the depths of this thread too.

Well if Nooly's having another go so am I. My first gig was the Harry Callaghan weeken in 2005. Can't remember who played what days but I saw, The Restarts, The Freebooters, Coitus and Cold War. The weekend kicked an unbelievable amount of arse.

no offence but i was at one of them gigs janers pn about in sfx as well, the night the outcasts played - era of 7 deadly sins 12 inch, and "the clash" were awful - a parody without mick.
