the amount of compression in videos i've uploaded has really started to annoy me, so i tested a load of different versions of the same video (all based around the 30fps 320x240 they suggest).

xvid, divx and wmv all resulted in the same crappy results when uploaded. after reading this i realised there was nothing i could do: http://blogs.chron.com/makingmovies/archives/2006/04/youtube_and_the.html

youtube uncompresses your file and recompresses it their way. it would be nice if they had a streaming and high quality options, but they don't.

i guess using one of those free upload sites is one way to go.

I upload alot of vids to utube and yes they do butcher em but they're still better then nowt, heres an example

the original I filmed in is mpeg2 transferred to .avi and then I guess they do what you say they do, original mpeg2 version is excellent.

alternatively, check out the divx video sharing service called stage6 http://stage6.divx.com/ You can get some streaming HD stuff from that without too much buffering if you're on a decent connection. and i don't think they have a filesize limit.
