what happened?
issues with the server?
is it likely to be resolved soon?

i opened my browser, it asked me for a password and i thought work had installed a firewall...

well this is all i know:

the trouble started around midnight on friday

i found out on saturday morning, and logged a support call with the hosting company

on saturday evening, i got this reply:

Resolution:
Your domain has been disabled for overloading the server.
Please contact [email protected]

So i replied asking for more details and got no reply

I've emailed the abuse people and not heard anything back yet. From a previous problem, i seem to remember they don't work weekends, so that means the earliest i'll hear anything is about 3pm today


This did happen before - that time it was the message board that caused the overload so i moved it back to another server which is why you can still access it. That time they tried to sell me dedicated hosting, and i politely declined as that would be about $100 a month.

I've no idea what caused it this time.

oh and I'm getting the DNS record changed so that www.thumped.com points to 209.204.240.222 in the meantime

but that might take days...

The domain was disabled for causing a massive overload on the shared server.

You must upgrade the account to a dedicated server account in order to continue hosting within our network. Please contact the sales department for these options.

Is an overload cos too many people are accessing the site?
You could start charging for hosted sites, Pete, that'd defray some of the cost of dedicated hosting. I wouldn't object to paying

you'd have a least a dozen bands...

then we could all get up and jam thru "We Are The Champions", about 14 drum kits on the go at, 30 or so guitarists each taking a solo a couple of dozen singers taking a line each BBC's "perfect day" stylee and then we could bring Pete up on stage like Sting dragging out the Amazonian boys way back when (Pete wouldn't have to shove an ashtray in his gob...although....) for a big pyrotechnic finale drisplaying the Thumped logo 20 foot high in neon lights....

...do reckon Issac Butts would be big enough???

right here's what's happening -

I'm getting the DNS updated as we speak, so thumped.com will point here

Then i'll sort something out with replacement NT hosting - dedicated NT servers start at about $100 a month, so that's a non-starter

This will mean short term problems for hosted sites & people with thumped.com emails, but i'll sort that out in a few days

yeah you wouldnt ronan, but thats probably because our site isnt hosted by anyone at the moment so the issue doesnt arise!
