I want to do some drum tracks for some forthcoming recordings, what drum machine software would yiz recommend? It doesn't have to sound realistic, actually anything along the lines of a Casio Sk-1 sound would be grand. I've heard of Fruity Loops but have never used it. Any ideas folks?
Thanks in advance and .|..|.|..|.|..|

Redrum in Reason is pretty snazzy, and pretty fun to use. I've heard Ableton is good too, and a lot easier for building up effects quickly..Also, basic Reason >1.5Gb of HD, and Ableton 65Mb of HD, so Ableton may be a better option of ye want something more compact

The Redrum user interface, bit like a Roland pattern device..heaps of fun..I loves it I do

how does one make drums in ableton eh?

impulse is crap compared to & redrum recycle/rex.

i like to get my beats together in reason and then export them and take em into ableton and dick around with them loads there

Agreed and the midi user interface in Ableton is shockingly bad.
Redrum is your best bet - especially if you're looking for rock style drums.
Only downside is that if you're not used to programming hardware step sequencer drum machines, it might take you a while to get used to it.

Yeah it's fuckin horrible isint it.

The first place I learned with any degree of success to program drums was with cubase. I wish I still had cubase.

rebirth by propellorheads
do they even make it any more?

it's discontinued, but still available, you can download it here:

(registration required tho)

and yeh, another vote for the propellerheads drum machines here.
reason is good for getting your basic beat in a redrum, and then adding little bits with sections of dr.rexes

if you wanna go more midi programming route, you can also use the sampled kits of reason drums (they're nn-xt sampler patches)

or better still (if you can get it), fxpansion's BFD:
http://www.fxpansion.com

(may be over kill for ya tho)
