Following the madness of last week's ARTHUR'S DAY bash( ft. Le Galaxie, Windings, DJ Tom Fitz TERMIGHT KLUB), this week we bring you the gentle and understated beauty of two of our favourite songwriters right now. This one will require a little bit of whist on everybody's part but we assure you this is a show you'll be telling your friends about for months to come. Stars in waiting. :heart:
RACHEL SERMANNI:
Rachel Sermanni is 19. She is a songwriter from a small village in the Highlands called Carrbridge.
Rachel has been honoured to have supported many acts over the past twelve months including Mumford & Sons on their infamous Highlands & Islands tour as well as amongst others, KT TUNSTALL, NEWTON FAULKNER and JOHN WILLIAM GRANT. The latter two who Rachel has ended up dueting with.
Invited to London to play the Communion night at Notting Hill Arts Centre having had her track My Friend Fire, recorded and produced by Ben of MUMFORD AND SONS feature on the first Communion compilation album after they discovered Rachel playing on a beach in Ullapool.
Her track 'The Fog' was iTunes(UK and Ireland) SINGLE OF THE WEEK last week. She also played a sold out show at BUSH HALL, London last week and received a 4 Star( ****) review from THE TIMES for her trouble.
SEAMUS FOGARTY:
Seamus Fogarty hails from the west of Ireland and writes songs about mountains that steal t-shirts, women who look like dinosaurs and various other unfortunate incidents.
He came to the attention of Scottish record label FENCE RECORDS after supporting JAMES YORKSTON (Domino/Fence Records) at a show in Kilkenny. An invitation to the Collective’s annual HOME GAME festival in Anstruther, Fife, soon followed – with Seamus performing in front of about five people at a secret pub show/bar room brawl. KING CREOSOTE was one of those in attendance, and was immediately hooked (nearly left-hooked).
This year began with Jim Carroll of the IRISH TIMES picking Seamus as one of the 10 acts to keep an eye on for 2012. Since then he has played at the CAMDEN CRAWL in London, toured the UK with JAMES YORKSTON, opened for KING CREOSOTE and JON HOPKINS in Vicar Street, performed on the main stage at The GREEN MAN Festival in Wales and BODY & SOUL stage at the ELECTRIC PICNIC 2012. Seamus’s debut album, God Damn You Mountain, was released on FENCE RECORDS in April 2012 and is available to buy from fencerecords.com.
‘Singer-songwriter Seamus Fogarty is a no-nonsense operator with a fine handle on strong, melodic, powerful folk, country and blues’
* Jim Carroll, Irish Times
"Deep listening psychedelic folk, a peaty brew." * The Quietus Magazine
"Surreal, gently humorous songwriting" * CLASH Magazine
