Thumped Cover Challenge No.4 - Elvis Costello (1 Viewer)

ok well here goes nothing: http://www.mediafire.com/?enjmzwjkday 'i can't stand up for falling down'

here's the 'nerd' stuff:

i got the chords and lyrics from here
i learned the piano chords here
whenever i got stuck i looked at this picture for inspiration
it was all recorded on a Tascam portastudio 424mk2
i learned how to use the portastudio here
i don't own a mic so i used an old pair of headphones to record most of the parts.
i used a tama rhythm watch to record the click track
then i piled the following on top of it (in order):

autoharp
2nd autoharp (put thru a marshall mini stack on overdrive)
nord lead 2 digital analog synth
large rack tom
tamborine
broken sabian 'el sabor' cymbal
hand claps (inaudible)
3 glasses of water being hit with a pen (mostly inaudible)
tin whistle (twice)
and finally 2 really bad sets of vocals.

it was recorded last night and today
it was a lot of fun to do
it's very noisy but you might need to turn it up

That hurt my brain. In a good way!

Fuck - Costello songs are so hard to do !!!this is my second attempt at recording a song, and probably my fourth or fifth choice of song, but i went with the big pop hit that everybody knows !, - Olivers Army ( in the style of Billy Bragg ! ) in 1993 i was unpolitely told to "MOVE ALONG!" by a cop in the Shetland Islands for busking this song, so we got history, me and Ollie :)

I hadn't realised his songs would be so hard to do either.

So far Dutchy is the only one to go beyond the one voice+one instrument approach.

This is great, Derrick. Vocals are really good.

Lindbergh, Baby! present New Amsterdam.

Recorded with a few guitar tracks, eh, plugged into an amp and mic'ed, plus vocals, and a keyboard through the guitar amp too. Bit of reverb & EQ on some things. Oh, tremelo on 2 guitar tracks, little bit of delay on another.
Producer's instruction to Hayworth when recording her vocals: "I want sweet, not sultry. Read the people a children's story, not an erotic novella." Like a true pro, she worked it like Marian on Bosco.

Hey respect Crumb old boy...i started Olivers too (after trying Tokyo Storm Warning and spiritually failed) but before seeing you'd posted yours..hope i'm not breaking any club rules by heaping another version of Olivers Army on the pile.
