This awesome double headliner featuring rising Texas electronic rock revelers The Octopus Project and Montreal's moog-punks Duchess Says could well be one of the surprise gigs of 2008 in Dublin. Neither of the two bands are exactly household names in Europe so allow us to introduce you.

"everything we do is in the name of fun." - Yvonne Lambert, The Octopus Project.

The Octopus Project make their Irish debut on a wave of critical excitement in the United States. As hometown participants, they stormed the 2007 South By South-West conference in Austin, Texas, prompting Rolling Stone Senior Editor David Fricke to identify them as one of the top five acts of the whole event. Their third album, Hello Avalanche, caused serious tremors also when it was released in October of that year on Peek-a-Boo Records. The album's strength is its delicious mix of spooky Theremin-weaved instrumentals, frantic electro-rock swamp stompers and starry-eyed analog electronic pop songs. But who would have guessed that The Octopus Project would romp home so emphatically at the Austin Music Awards, pocketing Best Experimental Band, Best Indie Band, Best Instrumental Band, Best Miscellaneous Instrument - Yvonne Lambert on Theremin - and top ten placement in eight other categories! The band's wild, uninhibited live show, often featuring projections, balloons, crazy light shows and Telly Tubby-esque creatures invading the stage, generated a massive Internet buzz - Pitchfork described them as "cyberspace's ultimate guilt-free party band" and the MySpace community voted them their favorite band to open up the Coachella festival last year. Tours with Aesop Rock and Germany's Stereo Total brought the show to new audiences. 2008 looks bigger again for The Octopus Project. The band have been invited to perform at the Explosions in the Sky curated ATP and to join the likes of Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Broken Social Scene and many others on this year's Lollapolooza line-up. All that and a seven inch release on the much coveted Too Pure Singles Club defines what has already been an amazing year for The Octopus Project. www.theoctopusproject.com

press quotes:

"mind-numbingly fun!" - Pitchfork

"unprecedented levels of bliss" - Spin

"smart pop scientists and total party animals, like Stereolab with happy feet." - David Fricke, Rolling Stone

Montreal's Duchess Says fuses the fury and intensity of a punk rock comprised of screaming guitars, moaning bass and relentless drumming with keyboards and the explosively sexy stylings of vocalist Annie-C. There is something breathtakingly original about Duchess Says and one listen to their debut album Anthologie des 3 Perchoirs will confirm. Duchess Says was created in late 2003 by four influent members of the Church of Budgerigars who decided to collaborate together in a common musical project. The band is composed of A-Claude (vox, keytar, guit, programmations), Ismael (keyboard, guitar, programmations), Phil (guitar, bass, feedbacks) and Simon Says (lo-fi beats, drums and doubtful noises). Duchess Says serve a repertoire of "moog rock" songs strong in images and enormously intense live performances. Their musical influences range from no wave, new wave, and punk, to cinema and visual arts. If you pay attention, you could see them perform in the most unusual places such as golf courses, shop windows, vacant building sites etc. www.duchesssays.com

"Super tantalizing... super frightening." - The Fader

"Montreal's most dynamic and sure-footed dance-punk renegades." - Chart Attack

"manic punk, icy synth rock, sweet electro, spooky horror-film soundtrack material." - Montreal Mirror
