....that's just a graphic being zoomed in. It doesn't really mean anything.

what I mean is, don't mind what your music 'looks' like. People listen to music, be worried about how it sounds.
Of course if you compress/limit a track to make it stupid loud, it'll sound worse than if you didn't.

There's always been a 'loudness war'. In Motown's heyday they'd often to 20 different versions of a mix to see which one would transfer best to the 7" format. And their goal was to be louder and clearer than the other labels.

Columbia records though were known for making better 'sounding' records. Motown wanted to be the loudest though and often that meant sacrifices to the fidelity of the sound.

Nothing has changed, people are still happy to make their music sound worse in order to be loud, and that won't change until those artists/bands/labels that are higher up the food chain take it down a notch.

for example, it was nice to see LCD Soundsystems last record not slammed to bits.
