I was gonna e-mail all the bands but I thought this might be simpler since I don't have e-mail addresses for all: I'm doing a compilation tape of Irish hardcore, 90 minute tape with photocopied inlay and getting it out ASAP. Side A is (hopefully) gonna be The Dagda, Scared Shitless, Knifed, Easpa Measa, Scientific Bong, Bastard Youth and Puget Sound and Side B will be Cheapskate, Pink Turds In Space, Jackbeast, DEBT, Jobbykrust, Gout and maybe another band or two, that is if none of the bands (past or present) have a problem with it. If anyone from any of those bands sees this could they e-mail me at [email protected] to let me know the story. I need tracks from Scared Shitless, Knifed, Easpa Measa & Bastard Youth...the rest I've got...the tapes will only probably be €1, just whatever it costs to buy a tape and photocopy doublesided A4. Let me know soon, if you can...

P.S. -the reason for doing this (apart from because it'd be deadly) is because I'm starting a tape distro/label and this will be the first release. After that stuff I'll have is a 60 minute Disrupt tape, two Krigshot LPS on one tape, and various other tapes with stuff like Infest, Despise You, Amebix, His Hero Is Gone, No Comment, Dropdead, Disclose, ENT, Rudimentary Peni, etc.

The whole idea with the distro is to have decent quality tapes with photocopied inlays available ultra-cheap (hopefully not over €2), and of excellent bands (some known, some unknown) whose material I've personally found quite hard or expensive to come across. Perhaps some of youse who have copies of stuff that fits this description will let me use it to make CDR copies of to hence make tapes from. E-mail me with ideas....thanks.

ooooh cheap distroooooo

sounds fucking cool corm, cheap tapes of bands that are quite hard to get.... personally i love bands like that except its too dear for cd's,then post and packaging and the wait and all that bollix,so the tape idea sounds class....

tape punks are go!

Funny how people aways get the same ideas at the same time, both myself and Owensie had this Irish comp tape idea a week or two ago, reason being that Im in Australia and going to other places and I could just carry one master and make copies as necessary, sell them for cost price, get Irish bands known worldwide, blah, blah, blah....Obviously anybody else thats travelling could do the same thing and completely pollute the world with dodgy Irich comp tapes. talk to Owensie as hes probably working on it too, and mail me if anything comes of it - [email protected] sxean

Coolo...I've been thinking and talking to people about it, and a regular tape inlay would be way too small to do it properly, so the other part is that I'm going to do a zine with it with 1 A5 page on each band with whatever you want on it (lyrics, pic, contact details, biography, porno, whatever), and yis can either do it yourselves and give it to me or give me the info and I can lay it out. It'll be around 5 - 7 mins of each band.

The other idea I had was similar to yours with the master tapes and all. What I'm planning to do is make a CDR master of it to record the tapes from, and then instead of giving the bands copies of the comp (since that would be really expensive and I'd have to sell them for more to do that), I'll give them each a master set of a CDR for each side of the tape, the zine pages to photocopy, and the tape inlay/track listing. They can then make their own copies as they need them, and all that I ask is that they sell them cheap.

Why bother with tapes when you can make CDRs?
Tape quality is shit, and CDRs are very cheap.
I would definately seek out a CDR of this compilation, but i couldn't give a fuck about a tape.

CDs are the least punk thing *ever* Tapes are punk coz then you look real poor, which is what its all about. Vinyl collections are punk too but for quality first pressings, your lookin at paying more than CD,which rings us back to looking poor. The punk image is a vicious cycle, but well worth it if you can pull it off.

Tapes are cheaper, more durable and more accessable -how much does a CD walkman cost? Loooaaaads. You'd get a walkman for a tenner. Also, CDRs are shit and break easily, and proppa CDs cost loads to press, so that'd be a bit pointless. CDRs would be more expensive, and whereas there's 90 mins on a tape there's only 74 mins on a CD. I don't know if this goes for other people, but I personally prefer tapes because they're not going to skip all over the place when you're cycling or skating, which is personally for at least an hour a day, during which time I listen to lots of music. Another point is that the way I'm doing it is so that bands can get a master and make their own copies to sell, and not everyone has access to a CD burner, whereas most do to a tape deck.

As we all know, music isn't worth hearing if it's on a tape -so don't fucking bother then.

eghh, scared shitless have a few songs done on 8 track and minidisk if you want them for the tape. what is the story for the warzone recording, are scientific bong and bastard youth doing it and when?

CDRs are shit, who the fuck wants to even look at a CDR let alone listen to it. blehhhhhhhhhh....use them as frisbees or not at all

I tend to agree. Cdr's scratch easily, are blue (or gold) and their very existence devalues all of your cds/tapes/records. They also look pretty horrible with a title written on them in black permanent marker. Tapes say, "yes, i copied this album and i dont care", cdrs say "im trying to pass off this copy as real". well, actually, neither tapes nor cdrs talk at all.

shut it

Look at the level of conversation. What are you saying, Tapes look cool, cdrs don't. YOU ARE SAD

if that's sad then why does pretty much everyone (except whatever dickhead who has to pretend to be different in every thread) prefer to have albums on vinyl or at least tape than on a CDR..........why bother making records at all if it's so SAD to care what it looks like
