MAGIK MARKERS

Website: http://www.magikmarkers.com

Magik Markers have releases on Apostasy Records and Thurston Moores Ecstatic Peace label.

"One of USA's most harrowing and mesmerizing live noise units since mid-period Germs."

"Somewhere between a ghost dance and the DT's, the Markers serve up real punk rock. Not the codified, lockstep of modern punk, but something eviscerating, a disquiet child born of Patti Smith's "Babelogue" – blistering, primal, wisely rambling. You couldn't call what they did "songs" in any traditional sense. It was here and now it's gone – the way of all flesh, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. "

FROM wikipedia:
The Magik Markers are a three piece noise rock band from Hartford, Connecticut who combine No Wave-sounds with distorted guitar noise. The members, Elisa Ambrogio, Leah Quimby and Pete Nolan started the band in their basement in 2001. Guitarist/singer Elisa Ambrogio frequently assaults her guitar with various objects or stands on it, simultaneously shouting mostly improvised lyrics into a microphone. Asked to open for Sonic Youth on their American tour in 2004, the band's fame started to rise. Their debut album I Trust My Guitar, Etc... (vinyl only) came out the next year on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label and was sold out within a year. A couple of American and European tours followed, including one with fellow experimentalists Sunburned Hand of the Man. In 2006, Gulcher Records released A Panegyric To The Things I Do Not Understand, the Markers' first proper CD.

They have released one limited CDR on the Deserted Village label featuring nasty monolithic live cutz and bopping instrumental Krautpop home recordings from members of the Wormholes, Papercop and Memory Cells.

///////////////////////

E+S=B started sometime in 2002 and stands for Electronic Sensoria Band. They improvise around a krautrock sound. The stated intention at the beginning was to only play electronic instruments and no guitars. They also must always play masked. While a drum kit is allowed, they have managed to stick to their other principles. The line-up and what they generally play is Dave Carroll on drums, Anthony Carroll on keyboards, Fergus Cullen on effects and Adrienne Flynn on drum pad/effects.

They started out mostly playing at Dublins Lazybird, but have been playing increasingly larger venues. Their highest profile and proudest show so far was as back up band to Damo Suzuki in Dublins Crawdaddy venue in March 2005. They have also played with Candian Freaks Les Georges Leningrad.

In Feb 2005 they released an album on Deserted Village. The same month their track 'Milkshake' was included on the Red Bridge compilation on Risc Records. UK magazine Fader singled out the track for high praise in their review.

Alternatively, Neil my Diamond.

HAIR FRANCE play too

'Hair France' is the new avant-rock vehicle for ex-'Happy Stack' main man Dan Watson. Between 1987-89 the New Zealander, was a member of the infamous 'Mcfilthies', the Auckland band which featured ex-'The Chills', 'Screaming mee-mee's' and future 'Stereolab' and 'Cake Kitchen' members.

After arriving in Europe in "89 Watson based himself in London, Bordeaux, and Munich before settling in Dublin and putting together the first of many 'Happy Stack' line-ups. Early recordings reflected Watson's exposure to the lo-fi element of the 'Flying Nun' label, with the first 'Happy Stack' songs being captured on 2-track. At the end of the '90's 'breathe' was released by 'Folkrum Records' but the band had already started to expand and evolve from what Watson termed 'slo-fo' into an instrumental post/prog-rock unit.

After a series of gigs playing with 'Do Make Say Think' 'Sweep The Leg Johny' and 'Tarentel' Watson called it a day for 'the Stack' and along with bassist Graham Keogh set up 'Hair France'. Their track 'Southern Ranchslider' has appeared on a couple of samplers and the band head into the studio in May. Dates in the spring in Scotland and a september tour of northern europe/scandinavia are planned for '06.

E+S=B & Hair France Live
Skinny Wolves DJs
& Guest DJ's Jaakko (Finland) & Magnetize

cheaper price of 6 or 7 euro

Check out Jaakko last SW set here

Magnetize will be playing a 'noisey' set
more info here : www.magnetize.biz

Magnetize has released Biome on Rimbaud Records: a collection of tracks recorded between 2000 and 2004 ranging from drones and soundscapes to looped guitar sounds and radio-wave static. made using a heavily treated guitar & analogue modular synth and recorded live in one take with no overdubs or post-editing.

He has also performed an evening of audio based brainwave entrainment with six oscillators, multi-panning and modulating techniques at the Lazybird club.

As well as all that magnetize makes music which has been loosely classified as dark dancefloor electro/techno (on templedog records)

So all in all, even with out Magik Markers this will definitely still be a night of interesting, amazing and innovative music!!!

Some Reviews of E+S=B's Milkshake on the RISC Records Compilation:

My favourite is a band called E+S=B, about whom little seems to be known. Their track's called "Milkshake", and it sounds like, well, a rudimentary live motorik recorded at someone's practice room. But it's one of the best rudimentary live motoriks I've heard in a long time. They've got the speed, the drum-fills, the swooshes of guitar, the organ sound and the momentum down just right, and it's a blast
Frances May Morgan, Plan B
'Milkshake' by E+S=B is a seven-and-a-half-minute rehearsal-room recording of neu-waves and cosmic casiotones reminiscent of Germanic groove units of old.
Keith Wallace, Do Something pretty

E+S=B's awesome krautrocking "Milkshake" itself almost justifies the compilation's existence,
Paul Watts, Anorak

You have to love the cheeky pure pop offering of 'Milkshake' by E+S=B, a song that makes you want to dance (up til now, most of these tracks just make you think).
Sinead Gleeson, Sigla

------------------------------

This will their first gig in almost a year, as far as i know
