Would love to see WITTR, Eternal Tapestry, Zombi & Cloaks but the headliners aren't tempting me at all this year. Plus it still being in October is a pisser.

i made a very foolish decision and splashed out for the whole weekend last year when all i wanted to see was swans, also ended up paying for accommodation in brum when i could have kipped with my brother in lahndan and seen a second gig in brighton.....live and learn

Lineup's a bit disappointing alright, so far.

It was chilly as fuck last year I thought, so yeah, I would have preferred it to be a bit earlier in the year.

I think last year's headliners are pretty hard to top though. Out of the three years I've gone to it, the last one was definitely the best. So many amazing sets. I wonder have they recorded any of them for release like they did for Iron Lung and Harvey Milk?

News just in…Supersonic Festival cannot keep things secret any longer and announce two very special additions to an already salivating line up.

Firstly, the one I have been waiting for…ENVY are now confirmed. They have become a dominant band in the independent hardcore scene in Japan, their music, through their own evolution, encompasses a sound where intensity and beauty coexists. They have recorded a number of singles and albums in Japan, including split albums with bands like This Machine Kills, Endeavor, Six Pence and Yaphet Kotto. Since their beginning, Envy has toured all throughout Japan with Mogwai, Isis and many more. They have laboured and toured their songs relentlessly for over a decade, and will continue to do so well into the next.

Secondly, a hot topic thanks to their recently acclaimed album Lost In The Glare, BARN OWL will return for another year, bringing the well honed dual guitar interplay between Caminiti and Porras, only this time in a different performance space. Producing a spiralling web of interlocking gestures that give way to bone rattling, monolithic progressions and dusty drifts. The mostly finger picked guitars weave in and out of each other in precise movements that recall the hypnotic influence of American minimalists.

There will still be more news to follow in the coming weeks as we get ever closer to the festival but for now, please feel free to spread this news far and wide!

Really looking forward to Part Chimp - seriously underrated band. They were amazing in the Lower Deck when they played here years ago.

Big news came our way recently when the self-proclaimed "Third-biggest Formula Rock Band in the World" Turbonegro returned with news of a brand new front-man, Tony Sylvester. It has been a whirlwind few weeks ever since, having returned to the stage at the annual Turbojugend Fan Club Convention in Hamburg on Friday July 15, after a two year hiatus to the roaring approval of their denim-clad fans.

Now, Supersonic have ensnared the almighty Kings Of Deathpunk for a UK exclusive headline performance at the festival. Bringing all the glam, good tunes and great vibes (and hopefully hordes of denim-clad followers) we couldn't be more excited!

The line up includes, Tony Sylvester aka The Duke Of Nothing (Vocals), Happy Tom (Bass), Euroboy (Guitar), Pål Pot Pamparius (Keys/Guitar), Tommy Manboy (Drums/Percussion) and Rune Rebellion (Guitar). Tony Sylvester comments on playing the festival:

" I was so chuffed that Lisa and Jenny asked Turbonegro to headline Supersonic and that the first show with the new line up in the UK will be there. Not only are they the best promoters in the UK, but I've been lucky enough to have been involved with the festival itself since its second year: announcing bomb threats, swimming in the fountains, playing Northern Soul, arguing on panels, you name it. This will be the first time I've actually played there however!"

latest press release:

As we get ever closer to Supersonic Festival, we have some more exciting announcements to make, including more music, more films, we unveil the first art installation and another key workshop (which I cannot wait for)

Supersonic favourite DJ Scotch Egg will be returning to the festival with his gabba/glitch/gameboy core. Scotch Egg will also be performing with his acclaimed band Drum Eyes, memories of their amazing performance at Supersonic 2009 meant Capsule had to invite them back. Keeping up the drum theme, DrumCunt will join the bill with their noisy grime/dub infused electronica. UK electronica outfit Modulate will be bringing an audio visual set whilst Jefre Cantu-Ledesma (Tarentel, Grouper and more) will perform his own brand of shoegaze. We're also very pleased to announce that Spanish doom band Orthodox will be joining the bill, merging their love for Sabbath with jazz and folk influences to create an intriguing sound.

Each year the Capsule ladies do like things to get a bit filthy at Supersonic hence why they have invited Klaus Kinski whose abrasive sounds won't let you stand still, also Birmingham's Backwards, whose double bass attack is punctuated with free sax improv and Selfless, an insane politically/socially charged hardcore punk/crust/grind band, lying somewhere between Black Flag/Heresy and Discharge, featuring members of Fukpig and Mistress (also from Brum) . Another one to add to this agenda is Drunk in Hell, with heavy guitars, crashing cymbals and guttural vocals, all in all they are pretty horrible, and that's a good thing. Particularly exciting is the addition of a very special performance brought to you by Ore, who merge classical, doom and experimental sounds through the medium of contrabass and depth of brass, proving that Supersonic champions local talent.

Of course, Capsule are all about audience participation and have scheduled some phenomenal workshops which allow attendees to not only create something from scratch but then use it as part of a bigger performance. Imperfect Cinema invite you to take part in a Super-8 workshop and document your time at the festival, recordings will then be included in a performance/screening encompassing film, field recordings and an opportunity to share your personal festival experience. Additionally, more details have also been announced for the Dirty Electronics workshop 'Mute Synth' - The Mute Synth is a noise based device that utilises feedback and explores the relationship between artwork and circuit board. Participants will begin on the workbench, devising the instrument, and move to the stage to explore the instrument and perform through it. Spaces for both workshops are limited, book your place by contacting [email protected].

Supersonic have had exhibitions in sheds before, but never sheds that have been converted into orthodox style churches. Look out for Herman Inclusus and his beautiful illustrations.

Two essential new music documentaries will get exclusive screenings at the festival this year, Still Before is a tour diary of avant rockers Oxbow, exploring the WHYS of art creation, the touring life and 20 years in, the motivations for continuing the same. Blood, Sweat + Vinyl: DIY in the 21st Century focuses on Hydrahead, Neurot, and Constellation and shows historic documentation of these fiercely independent labels and the bands they support, not only that but it deals with the important relationship of artwork and music as well as inspiring audiences with direct interviews about how these labels continue to maintain their independence. This particular film brings me so much personal pride, I am very excited that Supersonic are able to share it with you.

Its time for the day tickets/line ups to be announced for this year's festival (though the exact times have yet to be released). Additionally, Supersonic have announced two more musicians to the bill and details of the final creative workshop. Capsule are absolutely unstoppable!

Before the good news, I must break some bad, unfortunately due to health reasons ZU93 are unable to play Supersonic. We know that this is going to be disappointing to many of you and I am gutted but this situation is completely out of our control.

On the flipside, I am very happy to announce US bassist/composer/performer/founding member of the Minutement/my personal hero Mike Watt. He has performed in fIREHOSE, Dos and many other solo bands as well as a sideman bassist for Porno For Pyros, J Mascis & The Fog and currently (since 2003) Iggy and the Stooges. For Supersonic he will be performing his music from his deeply personal punk rock opera and with him are his 'Missingmen' Tom Watson (guitar) and Raul Morales (drums).

And from one end of the musical scale to the other, I am particularly proud to announce iconAclass to the line up. iconAclass is the new project from MC/producer Will Brooks best known as dälek. His newest solo project sees him maintaining the gritty view of boom-bap he is know for, while returning to his roots. Performing songs from his new release, For the Ones which is pure hip-hop - hypnotic heavy beats serve as more than just a backdrop for this MC, they focus a spotlight squarely on the lyrics, and iconAclass has a lot on his mind!

As well as absorbing mind-bending music, Supersonic have packed the festival with plenty of other workshops, films and exhibitions to keep our brains well nourished across the weekend. The final workshop they have announced is absolutely perfect for people with an interest in screen printing, whether experienced or not, it is a t-shirt screen printing workshop run by the independent business Get A Grip. This is a superb opportunity for people to get the creative juices flowing. Check out the website for more information.

As a reminder of some of the previous workshops we announced...Imperfect Cinema invite you to take part in a Super-8 workshop and document your time at the festival, recordings will then be included in a performance/screening encompassing film, field recordings and an opportunity to share your personal festival experience. Also, the Dirty Electronics workshop 'Mute Synth' - The Mute Synth is a noise based device that utilises feedback and explores the relationship between artwork and circuit board. Participants will begin on the workbench, devising the instrument, and move to the stage to explore the instrument and perform through it. Spaces for all workshops are limited and will sell out quickly, book your place asap by contacting [email protected].

You can read more info on these announcements and the rest of the line up HERE and for suggestions on how I can clone myself so that I can fit it all in, please write back immediately!
