Steve Reich coming to ireland (1 Viewer)

Did anyone go to the seminar on Sunday? Very entertaining, Reich is now an outspoken conservative.... weird.

Proverb was dire. They should have just done the whole of drumming

yeah, i thought proverb was dull, though some of the other choral material was pretty nifty.

i'm a bit irked that i missed the feldman stuff, i've been hearing nothing but good things about it. ditto four organs.

I saw the Jennifer Walshe one ("Procedure for Smoothing Air") on Saturday. I really liked it. Loads of bizarre juxtapositions between sight (a woman blowing bubbles, throwing feathers back and forth, sprooshing spray cans) and sound (plinky-plonky piano, trombone and cello). Very dada; I thought it was pretty funny, although I bet loads of people hated it.

Yeah, but I'm not much into choral music (I went primarily to see "Drumming"), so I found it a bit dull. People who know more about it that I do said it was all very good.

I dont know how the guy with the balloon kept such a straight face...

I wasn't so taken with the Jennifer Walshe one. I guess I just didn't 'get' it. I need these things explained to me before I can appreciate them.

yeh, but we all know riley did way too much mescaline to qualify as as 'authoritative source'. i mean, reich's already accounted for john gibson (officially crushed under his organ, but questions remain) and ragnar grippe (buried under sand).

Hmmm true. I heard Pat Metheny is in hiding, surrounded by armed guards in a janitor's closet in the Barbican.

Such a great weekend.Absolutely blown away by you are and music for 18 musicians.Duet was beautiful.

Thought Morton Feldmans Neither was shite.

Steves trousers were a bit short.

John Kelly looks like gizmo

.|..|

I came out of Feldman's 'Neither' with new ears and a very excited brain, seeing the two Reich pieces beforehand was comparatively a waste of time.

Reich hasn't written anything new or really worthwhile IMO since 'Tehillim' which, itself has little to do with what I love about the earlier work.

Movt. 1 of 'You are' is a freaky carbon copy of 'Tehillim' with a blue note and a smattering of a Reich megamix thrown in for good measure. Total fucking autopilot.

Still love the guy.
