songs and crying (5 Viewers)

I'm a lad so I've obviously never cried in my life, but for verging on tears, it has to be the entirety of Children Of God by Swans. "In My Garden" and "Trust Me" for the utter melancholy and sadness, and "Like A Drug" and "New Mind" (which Gira unforgettably played an acoustic version of at the last gig in Doyles) for some scaring-the-absolute-shite-out-of-you-and-thereby-inducing-tears-of-terror type action. Also, the "World Of Skin" album by Gira and Jarboe has some of the most beautiful, haunting, yet extremely dark music ever which I'm sure somebody somewhere has once cried to.

these three always make me want to start blubbering...

mary margaret o'hara - you will be loved again
mumblin' deaf ro - it never even entered my mind
keith jarrett - shenandoah

Now, thats an amazing song...

These too
1. Low: The Plan
2. Clem Snide: Joan Jett of Arc
3. Nico: Fairest of the Seasons
4. Kathryn Williams: 3am Phone call
4. Aimee Mann: Just Like Anyone

'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" sung by pretty much anyone, or at least Alison Moyet or Roberta Flack. heartbreaking.
also, Scott Walker's version of 'If you Go Away' really, cos i barely understand french, but the 'but if you stay' bit where the strings soar gets me pretty much nine times out of ten.
and Timewatching off A Short Album... by Divine Comedy, again with the strings.

on the happy side, Mama Cass does a mean number on It's Getting Better and Make Your Own Kind Of Music.
and the big piano outro in Layla, the bit they use for the sting operation on goodfellas at the end, aaahh, magic.
and the boy with the arab strap by belle and sebastian,
and the song by stereolab, the one with her going 'happy happy happy happy happy love happy happy happy love', that's a fairly happy one too.

And the band played waltzing matilda- the version by the pogues

and when our ship pulled into circular key
i looked at the place where me legs used to be
and thank christ there was nobody waiting for me
to mourn and to grieve or to pity

lump in the throat stuff

get that toilet-rating shit out of here.

also, I'm a way bigger fan of the Littlest hobo than you.
for starters I didn't have to look the lyrics up in google,
i have that jive tatooed across my chest.
i'm the winner.

You fucking bollox Fancy, that was my line..I was even googling for the lyrics (which you threw in later)

I give your line-stealing -13 bogs, like so:

-!bog !bog !bog !bog !bog !bog !bog !bog !bog !bog !bog !bog !bog

Now where's slowey with his dog picture?

orphaned and forgotten threads that get resurrected make me nearly cry. and its not even christmas. *sniff*

superchunk driveway to driveway "glad i still have the strength to move" - that line does it for me still
stina nordenstam - soon after christmas. amazing song with amazing female related memories. and the piano is the most evocative instrument in de worreld speshly wit de bitta revayrb onnit.
afghan whigs - your curse. "and theres blood on my teeth when i bite my tongue to speak". reminds me of a friend of mine who has twice attempted suicide. he's still around tho and it's still his favourite song.
moondog jr - TV song the bit where he sings in his tweaked belgian accent "at least for a little while, my life will be alright".

jesus i'm depressing myself now. i'm off to listen to some scooter.

on the flip side of theme tunes, i defy anyone to come up with a happier theme tune than the theme to Flipper, or the theme to Skippy.

ok, maybe 'happy days'

REcently listening to DAniel johnston song 'you'll never get to heavan' (its a cover, never heard the original but daniel johnstons version really got me.

The vic chesnutt song 'Florida', "i respect a man who goes to where he wants to be even if he wants to be dead....."

That revenants song coppercailye when stephen ryan does the piano version on the b-side to marry money. thats one of my fav sad songs ever.

Yeah? Yeah? YEAH?

Well I have it on my clipboard, so I can ctrl V it whenever I feel like it.

THERE'S A VOICE,
THAT KEEPS ON CALLING ME.
DOWN THE ROAD,
IS WHERE I'LL ALWAYS BE.
EVERY STOP I MAKE,
I'LL MAKE A NEW FRIEND.
CAN'T STAY FOR LONG, JUST TURN AROUND AND I'M GONE AGAIN.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANNA SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON

DOWN THIS ROAD, THAT NEVER SEEMS TO END,
WHERE NEW ADVENTURE, LIES JUST AROUND THE BEND

SO IF YOU WANNA JOIN ME FOR A WHILE,
JUST GRAB YOUR HAT, COME TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, THE WHOLE WORLD IS MY HOME

SO IF YOU WANNA JOIN ME FOR A WHILE,
JUST GRAB YOUR HAT, COME TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON.

Instrumental Bridge

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON.

THERE'S A WORLD, THAT'S WAITING TO UNFOLD,
A BRAND NEW TALE, NO ONE HAS EVER TOLD,
WE'VE JOURNEY'D FAR BUT, YOU KNOW IT WON'T BE LONG,
WE'RE ALMOST THERE AND WE'VE PAID OUR FARE, WITH THE HOBO SONG.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON.

SO IF YOU WANNA JOIN ME FOR A WHILE,
JUST GRAB YOUR HAT, COME TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE.

MAYBE TOMORROW I'LL FIND WHAT I CALL HOME,
UNTIL TOMORROW, YOU KNOW I'M FREE TO ROAM

I even put in the instrumental bridge, so there!

Down in Fraggle Rock
Catch a Fraggle by the cock
Swing him 'round your head
Now you know he's dead.

Real upbeat tune that.
dance your cares away,
worries for another day,
let the music play
down in fraggle rock

there's no death and cock-catching in fraggle rock, jeez louise

in fact,

Dance your cares away,
Worry's for another day.
Let the music play,
Down at Fraggle Rock.

Work your cares away,
Dancing's for another day.
Let the Fraggles play,
We're Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober, Red.

Dance your cares away,
Worry's for another day.
Let the music play,
Down at Fraggle Rock.

admittedly the second verse is a bit of a downer, but that's the doozers for you.

Real upbeat tune that.
I think the last line should be
"Now you know he's really dead"
it's easier to sing.
