Its been a few years since I've done any recording, so I'm a bit rusty on the curent technology.
I have a Windows PC with a 10in/10out sound card. What software would you suggest for simple 8-12 track recording? I only have a simple mixer so all monitor mixes would have to be done on the PC.

Is there any free software I can do this with, not cracked, I've never had good experience with cracked software.

I'm told reaper is the business. Sure someone else will be along with more info.

Reaper is the one to go for.Its super slim jim and does everything the behemoths can do.I cant get enough of it.And its practically free.and sure get a couple of dodgy vst plugs and you'll be rocking in about ten minutes.

You wanna listen to HMD.
He's a fucking Yoda type character when it comes to this kinda malarky.
